Just like the TiVo deal at Big Lots YMMV on the rebate. Looks like TiVo is trying to clear out this model in a hurry.
Seems like a hot deal...is no one replying because they're busy on Amazon's site buying?

The TiVo Service Gift Card can be redeemed towards any new service plan activation. The $100 TiVo Service Gift Card gets you 1-year of service FREE when redeemed towards a 3-year prepaid service plan.
Does this mean, if I buy 3 of these gift cards for 300$, I will get 3 years service for 300$?

Doubtful...seems like they want you to pay something out of pocket.
What's going to make this deal is if you can get the $170 rebate in conjunction with the gift card. Then you basically get a free TiVo and a free year of service.

First the rebate would only be for $150. Second Amazon has stated that the rebate will not be valid during this promotional period. However, it is up to Parago (the rebate processing center) on if it is accepted or not. You can always pre qualify at http://www.tivorebates.com/ which may help this slip through the rebate center.
The Amazon deal you have the small chance of cashing in on the $150 rebate. Also this deal is really good for those who want to take their current TiVo and upgrade (assuming prepaid service or monthly) without having to have another commitment. You can sell of the card on Flea Bay or CL and upgrade for a small fee.

Looks like this deal is now dead. I am not longer able to get this deal.
I signed up for the three-year prepaid plan. FREE 80-hour TiVo® Series2™ DVR with TiVo Service plan!
Doesn't sound like straight-up free to me. Straight up free is give me a TiVo with no service plan. It's (just about) cheaper to just get a refurb media center PC with TV card now and run that for as long as you like rather than continuing to pay for it's service every month, or a very high prepaid fee.
vickh said: if you can't go month to month, how long does this $100 card buy you,for a minimum contract period?
Can't do month to month, you have to commit for at least a year.
Monthly prices would be $16.95 for a 1 yr commit, $14.95 for a 2 yr commit or $12.95 for a 3 yr commit. The gift card would then be good for the following:
5.90 months for 1 yr leaving $103.40 to finish out contract. 6.69 months for 2 yrs leaving $258.80 to finish out contract. 7.72 months for 3 yrs leaving $366.20 to finish out contract.
You can also prepay which makes it cheaper per month.
1 yr prepaid would be an additional $79 2 yrs prepaid would be an additional $179 3 yrs prepaid would be an additional $199
The finally if you already own a TiVo then you can get $6 off per month on the additional Tivos with the multiservice discount.
It is also good to note that the TiVo becomes pretty much useless without a subscription, so don't think you will do 1 yr then stop paying and still use it.

can you use the gift card instead of a credit card if you're not prepaying?
if not how about using a prepaid cc with not much on it?

If you pay monthly using the gift card then the gift card will be deducted monthly until it is empty. I believe you will have to provide a credit card at the time of activation as a "backup payment" for when the gift card runs out.
Also if your credit card is declined during your commitment the TiVo service will get cut off and TiVo could go after you for early termination.
The deal still seems available for me. What if this is a second TiVo, could I use the GC for their secondary TiVo service (which is like $4.00 a month)?

Yep, the monthly MSD fee (which is a $6 savings off the price per month) will be deducted from the gift card.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but TiVo has their Series 2 for $49.99 with a 1-year service plan. If I got it under the 1 year service plan blah blah blah, then could I have them convert it to a secondary account or would I be SOL?

Yes, you can, but that's NOT a good deal. Get this one and sign up for 3-year MSD at $6.95/month. Your total cost for 3 years is $250, including a free TiVo.

Wow that kills the deal for me. Thanks..
Huh? I think he's saying that you can use it for exactly what you want. Why would it be a deal killer if you CAN do what you want?

It is also good to note that the TiVo becomes pretty much useless without a subscription, so don't think you will do 1 yr then stop paying and still use it. So my out-of-pocket cost for a three year commitment paid in advance is $99 + $199 = $298 or $8.33/month. Right now I'm paying $6.95 for my ReplayTV (have Showstopper with lifetime service). But the TiVo has a lot more features in terms of content. Decisions, decisions....
This is an awesome deal and still alive...too bad you can't apply multiple gift cards toward a single subcription purchase, or you could buy 3 of these for $297 and have 2 extra TiVo's to give away or sell on eBay after a 3-year service plan purchase !
I picked up one for my parents...should be perfect since they don't have digital cable and or HD...
I think using the Unbox credit requires a TiVo account.
You should probably not set the unit up with any type of account until you receive the Gift Card.
The Gift Card can only be used when the unit is first activated, ie, when a payment plan is first set up with the unit. When activating, if you forget to use the Gift Card(or don't use it for any reason), you will not be able to use it at all(on that unit):
You should be able to use the TiVo right out of the box for a number of days. Just don't set up an account until you have the Gift Card.

Thanks for all the great info!
Just a general question about the TiVo monthly plan. Can the rates be raised during the duration of the commitment? For instance, if I commit to the 3 year plan for $12.95, can they raise the price within the three years?

If you paid the promotional price of $99, you don't qualify for the rebate. Yea, that's what Amaz0n claims. During the $99 deal, it moved off the .pdf to a "previous offers" hyperlink. Clicking on the link shows a TiVo rebate that lists no such restriction about Amaz0n bought tiv0s during the $99 sales period. I wonder if someone will take up the challenge and try to get the rebate.
