does TiVo have a month-to-month plan with no contract.

even if it is $20 per month, we can use the gift card for 5 months.

does TiVo track sales by retailer and serial #?

if you can't go month to month, how long does this $100 card buy you,for a minimum contract period?

Credit to the OP in this thread.

I signed up for the three-year prepaid plan.

FREE 80-hour TiVo® Series2™ DVR with TiVo Service plan!

Doesn't sound like straight-up free to me. Straight up free is give me a TiVo with no service plan. It's (just about) cheaper to just get a refurb media center PC with TV card now and run that for as long as you like rather than continuing to pay for it's service every month, or a very high prepaid fee.

Can't do month to month, you have to commit for at least a year.

Monthly prices would be $16.95 for a 1 yr commit, $14.95 for a 2 yr commit or $12.95 for a 3 yr commit. The gift card would then be good for the following:

5.90 months for 1 yr leaving $103.40 to finish out contract.
6.69 months for 2 yrs leaving $258.80 to finish out contract.
7.72 months for 3 yrs leaving $366.20 to finish out contract.

You can also prepay which makes it cheaper per month.

1 yr prepaid would be an additional $79
2 yrs prepaid would be an additional $179
3 yrs prepaid would be an additional $199

The finally if you already own a TiVo then you can get $6 off per month on the additional Tivos with the multiservice discount.

It is also good to note that the TiVo becomes pretty much useless without a subscription, so don't think you will do 1 yr then stop paying and still use it.

can you use the gift card instead of a credit card if you're not prepaying?

if not how about using a prepaid cc with not much on it?

If you pay monthly using the gift card then the gift card will be deducted monthly until it is empty. I believe you will have to provide a credit card at the time of activation as a "backup payment" for when the gift card runs out.

Also if your credit card is declined during your commitment the TiVo service will get cut off and TiVo could go after you for early termination.

The deal still seems available for me. What if this is a second TiVo, could I use the GC for their secondary TiVo service (which is like $4.00 a month)?

Yep, the monthly MSD fee (which is a $6 savings off the price per month) will be deducted from the gift card.

Wow that kills the deal for me. Thanks..

I don't mean to hijack the thread but TiVo has their Series 2 for $49.99 with a 1-year service plan. If I got it under the 1 year service plan blah blah blah, then could I have them convert it to a secondary account or would I be SOL?

Yes, you can, but that's NOT a good deal. Get this one and sign up for 3-year MSD at $6.95/month. Your total cost for 3 years is $250, including a free TiVo.

Huh? I think he's saying that you can use it for exactly what you want. Why would it be a deal killer if you CAN do what you want?

So my out-of-pocket cost for a three year commitment paid in advance is $99 + $199 = $298 or $8.33/month. Right now I'm paying $6.95 for my ReplayTV (have Showstopper with lifetime service). But the TiVo has a lot more features in terms of content. Decisions, decisions....

what was Amazon's price before they had this promo? when did this promo start?

Can one use multiple $100 gift cards towards a new activation or is it one card per activation?

alert mods

one card only

alert mods

This is an awesome deal and still alive...too bad you can't apply multiple gift cards toward a single subcription purchase, or you could buy 3 of these for $297 and have 2 extra TiVo's to give away or sell on eBay after a 3-year service plan purchase !

I picked up one for my parents...should be perfect since they don't have digital cable and or HD...

got my TiVo yesterday. Is there a trial period, where I can use it, till my gift card arrives? how about just using the $5 unbox credit?

any TiVo Promotion Codes?

I think using the Unbox credit requires a TiVo account.

You should probably not set the unit up with any type of account until you receive the Gift Card.

The Gift Card can only be used when the unit is first activated, ie, when a payment plan is first set up with the unit.
When activating, if you forget to use the Gift Card(or don't use it for any reason), you will not be able to use it at all(on that unit):

What if I forget to use my TiVo service gift subscription or gift card during activation?
TiVo service gift subscriptions or gift cards that were not used during activation may not be redeemed after service is activated. However, the unused gift subscription or gift card can be used on another new activation of the TiVo service—for example, a second unit in household or by another new subscriber.

You should be able to use the TiVo right out of the box for a number of days. Just don't set up an account until you have the Gift Card.

Thanks for all the great info!

Just a general question about the TiVo monthly plan. Can the rates be raised during the duration of the commitment? For instance, if I commit to the 3 year plan for $12.95, can they raise the price within the three years?
