This is my first post so please be gentle. Did a search for Sony SXRD and didn't find anything. Apologies if repost.

In today's Fry's ad in the San Jose Mercury News it has:

Text

Note the ad reads "Before Savings"

50-inch $1799 -- $400 savings = $1399 SKU 5384038
55-inch $1999 -- $500 savings = $1499 SKU 5384048
60-inch $2199 -- $600 savings = $1599 SKU 5384018

Prices at Frys.com are higher, plus you have to pay shipping.

I checked a few other online Fry's ads in other cities and didn't see it, so this may be for the Bay Area only.

Good deal, thanks OP !!!!

If you have the space for it, I think in this case the extra $100 for each increase of 5" in size is definitely worth it.

This is a Great Deal. I have been watching for this TV to come down in price again so I can pick one up. Hope it spreads to the Austin area. Thanks OP!

this had to be an error. the $600 savings is $2799(price before sony's price drop) - 600 savings = $2199. someone failed at ad writing. if you can get one good luck, I just paid $2199 for mine.

This is absurdly cheap but I called the store and it is indeed going for those prices. Don't know how long it'll last. I just hope I can get a price guarantee for it..

$1,599 for the 60" dang!

The Los Angeles store has it for $2,199.

This looks to be regional.

How does your foot taste?!

Wow what a ridiculous deal! If any of you can get it for that price, don't think, just buy. I have the 50" A2020 and it's fantastic. This model is updated with some nice new features and to get 60" for $1599 is incredible.

hey, i said "if you can get it, good luck". the price drop just went from $2799 to $2199. dropping another $600 - i am not saying that you CAN'T buy it for that - i am saying someone at fry's screwed up - they may honor it until they run out of stock, who knows?

i will be calling the local fry's (austin) to see what they have it priced at.

don't call

Its definitely regional. Those of you who get it, congrats! I have been waiting for this price on the 60" too =( 2199 in Houston

Anyone know how long the bulbs are supposed to last and how much they cost as a replacement?

Yup, this couldn't be a clearer case of foot-in-mouth. In your original post, you concluded that "this had to be an error"--not might or likely, but had to be. Then, you proceed with a disparaging remark "someone failed at ad writing." And again, in your reply, you say "i am saying someone at fry's screwed up." Fact is, you were the only one in error by jumping to conclusions before getting your facts straight--ad was not in error because no one at Fry's made any mistakes. So, I say again, how does your foot taste?!

I've been waiting for-ev-er for a deal on an SXRD. Anyone had success with a PM at another Fry's?

ok, you win. i still think it is an error, but you are correct (for now). it is crazy to lower the price by an additional $600 just after a $600 price drop. they are giving up alot of profit - maybe they are banking on attachment sales, who knows?. many people pulled the trigger on this set when it dropped to $2199, and many were about to - why drop all the profit out of a premium set? (i know this is FW, but some things make you wonder).

maybe i am just jealous that the austin store does not have this special... i would get another $300 PM from BB.

but here is something that applies to the OP

for those without a fry's - Amazon.com has this set for $1899 with FREE shipping and no sales tax.

this is only $157 more than the fry's ad and available to just about everyone (not sure if all states are tax free)

ummm... not sure what happened - can a mod delete this post?

Strongly suspect this is the "before savings" is a price error, but I may go down there to check it out. A more realistic bet would probably be to try to PM this to BB.

I almost 100% sure that U will waste ur trip trying to get them to honor the price mistake.
My local Fry's always says "NO" to "printing error".

Why are the majority of people in this thread so dumb about this.

The OP is notifying people that its listed in the ad for $1600, anyone who is saying "probably a mistake", who CARES? how is it not worth driving to frys and finding out for yourself?

Did anyone get one yet? I don't want to drive all the way to Fry's and be denied.

Remember, when you factor the tax in, there is only $180 difference if oyu buy from Amazon for the 60 in model. Even if it is not honored @ Frys, get from Amazon.

Yo, went to fry's on Hamilton in Campbell. This deal is alive and they have it sitting there.

It is so alive that I went to Best Buy to do the 110% PM and they shot me down because it is under their cost. I think 1599 is their exact cost.

But when we were hesitating, they offered us a compromise: Sign up and buy with the Best Buy CC, we will give you the 110%, then you get the 4% on the CC. I'll take it.

San Jose Best Buy only had 1 in, suppose to be their floor model.

Hamilton Fry's just got their shipment 2 weeks ago. Best Buy in Campbell has 2 of them, don't know if they are on the floor though. Circuit City also has it, so you can pricematch for them.

Plugged it in and hooked up my Basic Comcast, and digital channels galore with about 10 HD ones. Got to love the built in tuner and the picture is awesome.

I got this TV at Best Buy in Colma, CA:
I ordered it online for in store pickup. I went to the store with the printout from the Fry's ad. After about 20 minutes of waiting they matched the Fry's price. No arguing or pleading. When the Customer Service cashier was giving me a refund, I said, "I get 10% right?", and she gave it to me right away. Total price $1701 out the door. No hassles about Extended Service or buying a stand and cables, besides the usual ask.

The TV is beautiful. Really thin bezel and the bottom part with the speakers looks pretty sharp, unlike some TV's where it looks like it was ducktaped on there.

It is still autoprogramming to San Francisco Comcast Cable(I just have basic), but has identified 79 analog channels and 111 digital. Not sure how much HD I'll get. Gotta go watch baseball now

Update:
Fox baseball is amazing. Also TV works pretty well in a bright room.

I bought this set a CC 3 weeks ago (60"). Fantastic set, like it better than my LCD. $1599 is an excellent price. Green for OP!

Just came back from BestBuy B&M successfully PMed to Frys $1599 with no question asked.
I also bought the black glass table for $189 after $35 instant discount. Final price after tax is around $1930.

I just finished setting up the glass table. I am configuring the TV for Auto Program/Channel.
I only subscribed to an Analog Comcast cable and the TV has found 76 Analog & 113 Digital channels.

The TV is very nice looking. Picture quality is amazing.
I received these HD channels out of the box
- 480i SD quality - OK
- 720p HD quality - good
- 1080i HD quality - great

I am very....happy!!

Thanks OP!!!

I used to live in California so I'm preety sure Fry's is only there on the west coast. Do you think a Best Buy in North Carolina would do it?

What about showing them a copy of someone else's bestbuy receipt?

After watching 1080i football on NBC tonight and 720p baseball on Fox, I prefer the Fox 720p. My brother preferred the NBC 1080i. Both are amazing and I'm about 10 feet from the set.

Now I need to research on AVS forum how people tweak this set. I'll post if I find anything especially interesting. Hopefully others will do the same!

...and thanks OP!

Here is the AVS Forum settings link to this TV.

sweet. i am glad people are getting this deal.

i wish fry's in austin had this for the same price - i would be in like flint.

however, BB did drop to $1979

that brings me to another realization - anyone who PMed this to Fry's. there is a better deal to be had!

BB is at $1979 and you can "sign up" for DirecTV (-$300) and buy an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player (-$100) to bring this set to $1579 with 2 free movies from best buy.. then sell the HD-DVD / Blu-ray player or "no-receipt" return it after christmas for store credit

my cousin has the 72' verison got it just under $3k...

its so worth it... just need the room... but its like going to the theather when i visit him... also it bring the ladies out... yup yup

SWEET!!! just got back from BB with another PM. they had the set for $1979 and applied my $300 directv, but they got confused on the rering and rang the tv at $1899 - $300 for directv. i got the TV for $1599! if they would have had the Toshiba A3 in stock, this would have been even better. but i will take my $300 and find a good deal on an HD-DVD player to go along with my PS3.

my foot never tasted so good

After I bought it from BB w/PM to Frys last night for $1599, I was thinking about doing the PM with Sears.com to save more.

As you all knew that Sears.com offers $250 rebates for online TV order 50" or larger.
So, I was wondering if it's possible to order it from Sears online (price $2199) and do in-store pick up.
When pick-up in store, do the PM to Frys (price $1599). If the PM goes through, final price will be $1599 - $160 (110% different) - $250 = $1189 (+ tax of course). Sweet deal!!!

What do you think? Do you think it's possible anyone?

That must be one large screen.

The link for the Frys ad is not working for me. Does anyone have a scan?

How likely is it that BB or Sears will PM if I'm on the East Coast? There aren't any local fry's stores around here.

Skipping 216 Messages...

I got my TV last week. The picture is incredible right out of the box. It is even better once I tweaked the settings a bit. I am glad I didn't go with a 50 or 55.
