I was able to get one of these 7200 drives. The problem is that it does not fit my Dell XPS M170 Laptop. Is there a way to adapt to work with my laptop. Does anyone have any thoughts? I was also trying to use True Image to clone disk and it went all the way to 70% and then the laptop turned off. Thank you in advance for any help. Happy Thanksgiving. Jordan |

If anyone in the Bay Area has an extra one they don't need, I'd like one and I can pay you extra. PM me! |

ah you're right, it was the same day. I attached Black Friday morning as my Thursday night since I did not sleep. So then I went to another Best Buy on the same day. |

Does anyone know how to adapt this drive to work with Dell XPS M170? If not I will have to get rid of this hard drive. Thank you Jordan |

All drives (either SATA or PATA) are standard for laptops. First check if your drive is SATA (this one is SATA, so won't work if you laptop takes a PATA). If your laptop takes a SATA, all you will need to do is unscrew the drive from the caddy (the thing that holds the drive) and then replace it with this drive. It is fairly simple operation, you will need to unscrew about 2-4 screws to remove the drive from the caddy. Also, there is a video posted by someone on youtube.com to remove the drive from the Hitachi enclosure. Good Luck! JPhotoz said:Does anyone know how to adapt this drive to work with Dell XPS M170?

Thank you for the help. I already took it apart and then tried to install. The connections are different. So I guess it will not fit. Maybe I will try to sell my Dell XPS M170 laptop so I can use this drive. Jordan |

Stores around me have this model stocked, lots on shelf but with diff. SNs. They all have barcode sticker on back instead of bottom. |

JordanYou can look http://www.bixnet.com/harddrivenotes.html if you see those type of connectors, and your laptop has 44-Pin IDE, consider selling the laptop. It is an old style. |

My Compaq lappy is PATA. Anyone know of any adapter that would let me use a SATA drive inside? I need to upgrade to a larger 7200 harddrive ASAP without upgrading my laptop. |

This looks like it is still alive - I picked up a DTG at Best Buy in NYC at 44th & 6th Ave today. I think it was the last one. |

seem like the price came down to $142 again. i bought this at $129 before BF.. can I still return this on the 'extended holiday' policy 60 days instead of 30 days and rebuy it with the coupon? if the price is lower by then, i hope.... |

You should be able to take off the adapter from the current hard drive in your laptop and place it on the new hard drive. Most dells, in fact most laptop manufacturers make their own adapters for the same hard drive. it is confusing because it looks like a different connection. However, you should be able to pull off the adapter from the pins on both hard drives, swap them, and use them... |
