7200 rpm hard drives are vastly underrated. In notebooks, CPU & RAM speeds have continued to increase while hard drive speed has remained the same.

When I put this drive in my 1.4Ghz Core 2 Duo it made a VERY significant difference.

The drive is on sale right now for $142.99 again. Although it was $129.99 a month ago. I will put this drive in the Gateway ML6720 that I bought yesterday.

found a DTG one at the $142.99 price yesterday, used my Reward Zone with a credit card to buy a gift card then used the gift card with the mover's kit coupon (so I wouldn't be using the coupon and RZ at the same time)--didn't have any hassles

drive identifies itself as an HTS722020K9SA00 which is a 7200 RPM model, score!

what does the link (to the product) say?

It's back to $173 this week but keep checking: they change prices on Sundays and they have been alternating between $143 and $173. I guess if you need this right away you could buy it at $173 and ask for a price adjustment (or buy one at the lower price and return it using your earlier receipt) when/if it goes back on sale.

back to 132.99, unfortunately rewards code is expired and the 10% USPS coupon is good instore only -

and the last kicker - there is no in-store pickup.

I'm guessing your problem is that your post office doesn't have the 10% mover's kit coupon. I think there are scans of it floating around. There was another 12% RZ coupon that was good from the 16th to the 21st; there'll be others in the future (or already?). It's still at $133 and even if you don't use a coupon, that's still a good deal since the drive itself was recently selling for $200 and up when I checked on pricewatch.com, and you get a shiny plastic enclosure to boot.

online only, so no guarantees of the 7200rpm version. Can I return this to a BB store if they send us the wrong one?

Should be able to... BB Return Policy for Online orders

And since you can check by looking at the serial number on the packaging, you don't need to open it.

The price on BB is $119.99 now.

Nice!

Has anyone received a 7200rpm from an online order? Hopefully the sale price isn't to liquidate the 5400RPM models.

In for one!

price match time

bought it when it was 132.xx with 12% coupon and couple of reward gc. Went to price match on Sunday and got back $42.xx somehow

Lame... Just got mine in and it's WHG...

BUT. I found one at a BB in Austin that happened to be a DTG. WOOT.

does this drive decrease the laptop battery time noticeably? also, is it a bad idea to leave this in the hitachi case if i want to use it as a external? whats the warranty on these?

down to 114.99 at BB store. Had stopped by couple of times (for other things) and nary a DTG. Well today, they had one one the shelf! with the 10% off coupon, which worked perfectly, some reward certificates, that worked out well.

I put one of these drives in my Macbook Pro and it has, if anything, had an increase in battery life. I installed Leopard at the same time, however, so that may have had more to do with it. I put the old drive in the enclosure and it works great as an external hard drive.

This is a great deal. 7K200 is the fastest non-SSD laptop drive on the market. Power consumption and noise is very low as well. See http://www.storagereview.com for info.

I bought the 100GB drive for $100 about four months ago.

The drives do use slightly more power than most 5400rpm laptop drives, but you're looking at a 5 or 10 minute (tops) battery life reduction if even that. It's somewhat arguable if what you do is disk intensive, you'll get it done quicker and be ahead of the game in actual productivity.

There is no harm in leaving in the external enclosure, but that's not the point of buying this drive. What you are buying is a top performance drive for about 35-40% off the price of the drive in OEM or retail form. The speed isn't as important as an external drive, so if that's all you want, you're better shopping for a deal on other units, WD 250gb's have been on sale for less than this, use nicer cases, and single USB cords.

Warranty is void if you take it out of the case.
