Original topic was posted a few weeks for $125.99 here Link but a week ago best buy changed price to $170, but today they changed the price again down to $142.99+tax and if you use a 10% off coupon(you can get at your post office for free in the change of address envelopes) the price is $128.691 so get them by next sun because they change prices every sun and theres no telling whether the drive will change in price or not. On the drive packaging it will say that the drive in PATA and 5400 RPM and some of them are and some of them arent, You need to get a drive with the serial # starting with DTG, because these are the 7200's if the serial # does not start DTG than it is 5400 so make sure you check before buying.

It's definitely back at the $142.99 price at Best Buy. There were plenty of DTG serial #'s at my local stores. There were also a lot of 10% coupon (exp 1/31/2008) in the address change pack found at US Postal Office.
I just pluged it in the USB port and confirmed that it's the Hitachi HTS722020K9SA00. I'll swap this out on my ThinkPad X61. Good find guys!

I got one too. Serial number starting with DTG. 7200RPM, HTS722020K9SA00.
Yes, it voids the warranty. So try the drive before taking it apart. Notebook drives are generally pretty sturdy. Pretty resistant to impact (when off).

Here's a how-to guide to switch the drive out and check it's a 7200rpm drive:

Was hoping that it would come back with a valid 10% coupon that I could use with it!
edit: does anyone know for sure if this will work in an Apple G4 Powerbook? Thanks
Looks like this 7200 rpm drive is a SATA drive which will not fit in the Powerbook. However, if the 5400 one is a PATA drive (OP mentioned this in his post but I am not sure) then it should fit your powerbook.
At around noon, Denver West BB had two DTG drives left after I bought one. You'll probably have to look through the 160Gb drives to find them, though. The 10% off coupon from the post office worked fine.

I found 18 drives in Rockaway, NJ...4 were dtg...I purchased 3 and the last one was snatched up by someone else looking at maxtor drive after I 'splained them' about the faster spindle of the dtg drives.
-Hot! I will be upgrading 2 Dell laptops I have on order for my office and use the last for file xfer/backup.
This was a good deal when it came out, and is still a good deal now. Combine with a 10% off coupon to make it even better. Not much over $100 for a 200GB 7200rpm drive.... you really can't complain. I put one of these in my Macbook Pro and it positively flies.

Yup! And with the 10% coupon and no TAX in Montana brings it to like $117 What a good buy! Plenty left in Billings, Montana.

Don't you mean "positively frys"? I replaced my 5400RPM HD with this one and boy did it make one side of my palm rest very hot. This is on the latest Macbook Pro 15". But I highly recommend it. The speed boost is very noticable.

Alive and well at Springfield, OR last night. $129.99.
Think I might have gotten the last one of the DTG; other 10 or so that I saw were WHG.

picked up 3 today using the 10% coupon on each one on the last one I decided to try and use the triple rewards points coupon too, it worked, no problems from cashier using 2 coupons should have tried it on the other ones
I was able to get one of these 7200 drives. The problem is that it does not fit my Dell XPS M170 Laptop. Is there a way to adapt to work with my laptop. Does anyone have any thoughts?
I was also trying to use True Image to clone disk and it went all the way to 70% and then the laptop turned off.
Thank you in advance for any help.
Happy Thanksgiving. Jordan

ah you're right, it was the same day. I attached Black Friday morning as my Thursday night since I did not sleep. So then I went to another Best Buy on the same day.
All drives (either SATA or PATA) are standard for laptops.
First check if your drive is SATA (this one is SATA, so won't work if you laptop takes a PATA).
If your laptop takes a SATA, all you will need to do is unscrew the drive from the caddy (the thing that holds the drive) and then replace it with this drive. It is fairly simple operation, you will need to unscrew about 2-4 screws to remove the drive from the caddy.
Also, there is a video posted by someone on youtube.com to remove the drive from the Hitachi enclosure.
Good Luck!

Thank you for the help. I already took it apart and then tried to install. The connections are different. So I guess it will not fit. Maybe I will try to sell my Dell XPS M170 laptop so I can use this drive.

Has anyone found a drive other than DTG or DEG that is 7200rpm?
Bink said: Has anyone found a drive other than DTG or DEG that is 7200rpm?
No... only these 2 SNs are confirmed to have 7200rpm inside. It looks like they came from an early batch. Stores around me have this model stocked, lots on shelf but with diff. SNs. They all have barcode sticker on back instead of bottom.

JordanYou can look http://www.bixnet.com/harddrivenotes.html if you see those type of connectors, and your laptop has 44-Pin IDE, consider selling the laptop. It is an old style.
My Compaq lappy is PATA. Anyone know of any adapter that would let me use a SATA drive inside? I need to upgrade to a larger 7200 harddrive ASAP without upgrading my laptop.

This looks like it is still alive - I picked up a DTG at Best Buy in NYC at 44th & 6th Ave today. I think it was the last one.

seem like the price came down to $142 again.
i bought this at $129 before BF.. can I still return this on the 'extended holiday' policy 60 days instead of 30 days and rebuy it with the coupon? if the price is lower by then, i hope....
Still 2 DTGs in the New Hartford NY BB as of yesterday...all the rest are a different SN (WSG or something like that)

You should be able to take off the adapter from the current hard drive in your laptop and place it on the new hard drive. Most dells, in fact most laptop manufacturers make their own adapters for the same hard drive. it is confusing because it looks like a different connection. However, you should be able to pull off the adapter from the pins on both hard drives, swap them, and use them...

Hot deal! Without a doubt the best drive to complete a lappy.
Went to Mission Valley (San Diego) and saw about 15 of these on the shelf; all WHG!!! Not one DTG serial!
Next, went to Chula Vista (San Diego) and only saw 3 WHG, no DTG, which are sealed in a theft proof plastic box. Asked employee to check for others, but said nothing....
Ahhh, will try again this week since that was last week. Really want one of these drives for my x61!!!!
