Question about this for anyone who's done it. Do you need to box the item yourself? Not sure if it's really worth the hassle to box old CRTs. |

Here is Southern California, Goodwill is an offical E-waste recycler. They take almost any old tv's monitors, computers, stereos, etc. My company had alot of old computers, monitors, printers, etc, some working, some not. Since we have more than 25 items, they even came & picked them up for free! |

I have a few old CRTs that I may send in to get recycled. Does anyone know if there is a limit to the size of the CRT? I wonder if a small TV can be recycled in this way? It is a CRT after all... |

If people want a little more $$ for "recycling" things like laptops that need refurb'd, BestBuys program gives you consistently more money. Ended up sending in my friend's old celery compaq laptop that had no restore disks and a flakey touchpad and got $65... would have gotten $143 if the touchpad had worked better and had original restore disks. Heck even got $14 for an old Motorola T720 on Verizon... had grabbed it from a recycle bin for a backup phone... |

I started a thread a few weeks ago on this site (it was moved to Deal Discussions afterwards) about Dealtree's free recycling / cash-paid program on select electricals such as laptops, cell phones, cameras. Someone responded to my post that it wasn't a good deal, but I really beg to differ. I recently got some very good trade-in values from Dealtree for 2 nearly-dead laptops which I was actually just trying to recycle. You can fill in an instant form online that will give you the trade-in value for your item with no obligation for you to take it forward from that point. There are about 15 different stores that you can sign up with - my mom decided to go with Dealtree's Gateway program (she got a check to cash for her trade-in amount) and I decided to go with Dealtree's Best Buy program (a Best Buy gift card for the trade-in amount). Dealtree has good customer service and we both got our money from them in about a week. They email you a UPS pre-paid label which you can print out and affix to the package - no postage required to send in your item. If there is no trade-in value, they will recycle it for you. After getting good prices on the laptops, I entered in my old phone but they said it didn't have any value so I decided to keep it as a back-up. At least you can see what the stuff sitting around in the closet/garage might be worth! |

Good post OP! By chance was that a laptop? In the future keep this site in mind: http://www.cashforlaptops.com/ Okay, now I really need advice from FW... This website is cool.. and they are offering me $360 for my laptop... How reliable is this company?? How picky are they.. I have heavy use (spending all this time of FW!) on this laptop and has the normal wear that shows from that (worn buttons and area around the touchpad).. If they are willing to give me $360 for this, I am in (can get a much better laptop off of here for around $700, I have an A105 Toshiba)... They didn't ask many questions at all about my laptop so I am skeptical... Thanks so very very much in advance! |

i tried like 10 different item. I was just going to post this. For the same Dell 19" LCD that CC gave me just under $80 for, Costco gives 28. Not the right time for Costco to be low |

For my original 'cashforlaptops.com' question, has ANYONE used that? good or bad experience? thanks! |

Cashforlaptops also quote a really tempting price for my laptop. A couple of people on notebookreview.com have had a positive experience with them and received their money: http://www.notebookforums.com/thread134705.html I'd be interested to hear if any FWers take the plunge though. -Mark
