How long until someone hacks it and add a serial or usb interface to it? Imagine the possibilities. Case mod anyone? LED display in your car to show your disapproval for slower driver's use of the fast lane? A wall of LED display used as a giant screen? |

They had all their cashier opened but I managed to make a friend and stayed at one cashier for the longest time due the upc barcode not scanning. Well that person didn't mind either for she is on the clock for hourly pay. Took a whole hour to finish and I was able to stick around long enough for their raffle drawing every 15 mins. I didn't win but they took my picture for their employee or corporate bullentin monthly newsletter. I'm going to be famous someday thanks to fatwallet. Yeah, that's not why they took your picture. I'm sure your picture pops up when they have devil customer training for their newbies now... |

Thanks.. My BBs are becoming unpredictably nice! I was at my local BB customer service and noticed these hanging behind the counter. Even though I already had about 30 of them I decided - since you FWers are coming up with great ideas - to get some more. So I asked if I could buy some for .01 and add more $ later. The CSR looked at me and said - why bother to put the .01 on them - just take them for free! I then told her I wanted 10 and to please put them in a bag so it won't look like I'm stealing them and she did with a smile - and even mentioned to me that I could program them. As I said - unexpected niceness! |

These things are awesome! Thanks OP for letting us all know! Well, I'm not sure, but it seems like this uses FRAM and not EEPROM. Looking at the RAM on mine, I found the number FM24C16 on it. A Google search seemed to bring up the schematics. Link to FM24C16 info For those who want to hook this up to an external battery, look to the left of the battery. There should be four metallic spots all connected (negative terminal) and one to the right of those that is separate (positive terminal). I don't know if you can just hook up two AA batteries to this without doing any damage, but I did that to mine and it seemed to work. |

Here is my tip for an easy way to erase the case white: Use Carburetor Cleaner and spray on a rag and then just rub the colors off. You might want to mask off the lens and wear gloves and do this outdoors. You can get this at any auto parts store for a few bucks and work on other stuff you have that needs the logos removed. Here is a link: Carburetor Cleaner |

The question everyone's been thinking of: Can it play doom? I, for one, welcome our robotic gift card overlords. |

Regular non-acetone nail polish remover took the lettering right off and left the shine on the plastic. |

These things need a 3v source. A pc has a 3.3V rail, anyone know what resistor will bring 3.3 down to 3? Thanks.... |

Input it to say "This is not a hook" and put it on your leader... Voila! Land a boatload of fish! storerobber said:here goes another neat idea with these led moving light thingy.
Clip them onto the tip of your fishing rod when fishing at night time. When you can't see the words anymore because it shakes so much, that is when you have a nibble.

Anyone with l33t h4x0r skillz adapted a battery pack to this? IE: Double A's or a 9-volt? I tried simply connecting a Double A to the terminals to no avail, so I assume you would need to use a resistor or something to drop the voltage of the battery down to 3v??? |

Not sure if it's really what should be used, but it made it light up for me. *tries to remember ohms law... * |

Dude, one AA is not 3 volts. It's 1.5 on a good day. Try two of them. If you are using rechargables then it might only be 2.5 or so. But anything in that range is fine. People worried about dropping 3.3V down to 3V to get this to work are worried about nothing. |

2 AAs in series (alkaline) or 3 rechargeable AAs (perhaps with a resistor). 3.3v from a PSU would probably be fine. 3.6v from 3 rechargeable AAs might be fine (and brighter). Check the voltage of the cell in there to see what it runs at and dont go too much above that. |

Also, if you really want to get courageous, you might even be able to hook up the device to the 5v power and ground from a USB cable along with a resistor. Then put it on your case for a nice "My 1337 Box" message to appear when you start it up. A much more long term goal: As for me, I'm trying to either figure out how to reprogram the memory or just directly change the output. If anyone has any experience writing drivers maybe we can also get this thing hooked up to a simple program... but that's getting way ahead of myself. Aside from batteries, has anyone been able to do anything remotely fancy yet? |

madshana said:When I bought my 22 cards with $.01 each I just said that I would decide later how much to put on the cards - when I knew who I was going to give them to.... I read your post and gave that line to the cashier today. Picked up 20 of them for .01/ea. The cashier asked me how much and I said "I only have to do a penny right?" he said yes. VERY nice guy. I had the cards in a basket and emptied it on the counter. I held them with the backs up while he scanned then threw it back in basket. Together it only took us about 3 minutes. Everyone in the household has played with one now. THANKS OP!!! AWESOME!!! |
