I bought 57, with $2 on each. I then used them online to buy DVDs and printer cartridges, which I picked up at the store- and bought more cards. I painted the case on one black, added two pinbacks, and wore it as a nametag, with "MERRY CHRISTMAS! HAPPY NEW YEAR!" on it, to our community Light-up-night today, and have orders for 3, at $5 each. The new ones I will paint with plastic polymer paint, and put Neodymium magnets on the back.

I tried to buy several card last night and had a store mgr that held to the guns. Stated that it was their "store policy" to issue card with a min. of $5.00; tried to argue the fact and had the store UT and LP departments escort me out.
Went to BB.com and saw this; "In Best Buy stores: Any whole dollar amount between $5 and $9,999."

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?type=page&entryURLType=&entryURLID=&categoryId=cat10001&contentId=1118841003480&id=cat12098

I did return later however and bought 9 card with activation of $0.01 from a register clerk who didn't question my request to put only $0.01; So i guess it all depends on the cash register clerk you get........... ("always looking out for the little guy; because no one else is.")

you should have tried $1 ea and mention you'll add some money on-line to each when you decide who you'll send them to.

k, doing some tinkering, these work fine at 5v supplied via usb.

red wire to battery clip/holder or lone pad on left
black wire to pads under battery, or on left side (follow traces all connected together == ground)

Not sure if an easy solution to get the writing off has been posted, but if not here you go.... use 0000 Steel Wool... it's like $2 at WalMart for a big bag. It's a really fine steel wool that took all of the writing off of the gift card in under 30 seconds. It's used on glass, etc, when detailing cars. It's really fine and will not noticably scuff the plastic. But if you're feeling overly obsessive you can wax it with car wax and fill in any scuffs.

I tried mineral spirits before the steel wool, and scrubbed for 5+ minutes and did next to nothing.

Nice. It takes more like 3 minutes to carefully do the front and back, but the results are great! Circular sanding/buffing works the best.

Billygoats said:Apparently no FW members want any of these in my area since my local BB had tons of them. I took the liberty of relieving about 2 dozen of them off their inventory @ a penny each. Thanks OP! When I have time, I may try to glue aluminum foil on the surface instead of sanding like some of you were doing. Contact kitchen shelve/drawer paper might also work if I can find a nice color at the right price. I would love try doing the Harbor Freight Motion Detector hack. It would make a great home security accessory.

Just wired two of these to a single 3AAA battery holder from Radio Shack. I'm using cheap 200mAh NiCds for now and will see how long before the batteries needs recharging. They are both set to fastest and brightest setting and programmed to display "ALARM ON". They will eventually be a part of my home security system.

Update: Batteries drained in a little over 2 days. I'll have to hook this thing up to a transformer plugged to an AC outlet with an ON/OFF switch instead. No more swapping batteries.

I did connect this to the USB on my computer and it works great with 5V as the power supply. Very bright even in the lowest setting and so far has not burned out without adding a resistor. Great computer mod!

Mein Gott!!!! You people in Milwaukee must be rolling in it. Here in San Francisco, I can only afford to put 1 cent on each of them.

lady said no limit of value on these. got 2 with 1 cent on each.

I can't wait until BB is out of these things.
