Uses single 3V lithium cell battery #2032.
Have not done a run test so I don't know how long it lasts.
The LEDs are arranged in a 7x21 array, overall display size is 15mm x 70mm.
On average it looks like the display fits around 4 characters but it depends on if you are using upper or lower cased characters.
You can store up to 6 different messages (only 1 can display at any one time.) First message can be up to 512 chars, the other 5 can be up to 255 chars.
There is a scrolling speed control (1 slowest - 9 fastest) that can be set.
No flashing setting.
Not sure how readable in sunlight. There is a luminance setting (1 dim - 9 bright).
There are three buttons on the back you use the up/down buttons to choose your character and then the Enter button to accept the character into your message.

current draw varies, but about 4-5ma MAX, so a 2032 battery (220mah) should last over 48 hrs.

.
Where did you get this number? LEDs can draw up to ~25mA so considering that these arent that bright, that there are more than one on at once, and there is a chip to power (minimal) I'd think the battery would only last a few hours.

Left one running for about 10 hours the other night to test it, still running strong.

Left a few running for 13 hours... still running. I was running in a local election and left them running at the legal distance from a polling station. I set a few of them side by side with the message Vote (Name)... Win... Vote (Name) etc. "Free" scrolling LEDs may not be quite as radical as "Free Borf" (check out youtube) but I think that at 24 for 24 cents total I'd qualify as the fiscally responsible candidate!

I finally figure out what I can use these led moving cards for.

I input my numbers on it and pass it out to women at the clubs. With the battery being tested by fatwallet members, they have a little over 13 hours to call me back to arrange for our first date. I hope the date likes me using coupons I printed at fatwallet.com

Don't forget to take her to McCormick and Shmick's using the gift certificate in the hot deals forum, then pick up condoms at the 99 cents store (they're on the rack next to the 99 cent pregnancy tests, funny enough).

I got the reading from my digital multimeter after I disassembled the case and measured it. The LED's are small and multiplexed.

ACTIVATE THE LED:
1. Pull back the cardboard tab below to expose the LED programming buttons (on the right) and the battery cavity (on the left).

2. Pull on the clear plastic tab to REMOVE it from the battery cavity. This will allow the battery to function. You DO NOT need to open the battery cavity itself.

3. After programming, push the cardboard tab back into place.

DN = DOWN & (END PROGRAM = HOLD for 3 sec. OR WAIT 10 sec.)

UP = UP & MENU SELECTION

ENT= ON/OFF & (SPACE = ENTER) (BACKSPACE = HOLD for 3sec.)

corrected <DN> <UP> <ENT/on/off> 11/11 8:30 pm

Note: Remember, ENT = Space. For double letters, enter the first letter, then go <UP> <DN> then ENT.

Wow. With an approach like that, no wonder you can't get a date.

ROBOSHOP GIFT CARD 1

ROBOSHOP GIFT CARD 2

ROBOSHOP GIFT CARD 3

Picked up a few today. Not as many as I wanted but for some reason they were not scanning very well and it took about 15 seconds each to scan. After a few minutes the line got really long at the only opened register. I didn't want a manager to come around and ask what was going on so I just said that's enough and booked.

Thanks OP, Got 5 at 1 cent each at my local BB

I always have this question. Can you simply grab gift cards and walk out of stores? (I am a card collector and love some cool card designs)
Since even if you want to put money into the gift card, you are paying only the amount that you put in there.

I have seen people's reply saying that he/she walked out of store with couples of them free (after asking a cashier or manager)

Great question.

I don't know about BB gift cards, however, I would think that since most of these "gift cards" and "prepaid phone cards" and the like say something to the effect of "No value until scanned at register." that they have NO VALUE UNTIL SCANNED AT REGISTER. This would make BB's case against you in court very FLIMSY if you took a stack of them out of the store via your front, back or side pocket. It would be identical to you taking a wad of toilet paper out of the store in your pocket after visiting the bathroom. There is no price on the toilet paper is there? There is no price on the gift card and if it indeed says "no value until scanned..." then, well, heh heh, how can they say you are stealing if the thing that you are taking has no value??

Just my opinion however.

until it say free on the package, you can not walk out the store with their merchandise.

They used to give out AOL cd but I didn't notice if it says free on the labeling or the display box said to take one for free then it's really free.

It is just like me walking up to a bestbuy person with the blue shirt and take them out of the store since they do not have any value to them either.

I took 50 more earlier today when they had their rewardzone triple points deal for invitational store opening at 8:30pm till 10:30pm(?) They had all their cashier opened but I managed to make a friend and stayed at one cashier for the longest time due the upc barcode not scanning. Well that person didn't mind either for she is on the clock for hourly pay. Took a whole hour to finish and I was able to stick around long enough for their raffle drawing every 15 mins. I didn't win but they took my picture for their employee or corporate bullentin monthly newsletter. I'm going to be famous someday thanks to fatwallet.

here goes another neat idea with these led moving light thingy.

Clip them onto the tip of your fishing rod when fishing at night time. When you can't see the words anymore because it shakes so much, that is when you have a nibble.

You can add money to it ANYTIME you want, in ANY amount, and the card never expires, so the money is always there on it until you use it.

And for added fun, try and find the same cashier and ask them to explain EXACTLY how a gift card works, and if they deviate in any way from what I told you, ask to have a manager come there, because you believe that he/she ( cashier ) is misinformed.

Definitely worth it, seeing what you went through and holding up the line, getting the cashier corrected in front of everyone.

They took your picture for their loss prevention files.

LOL That's what I was thinking, that or a blacklist! LOL

*looks at his own icon* I've walked out of stores with rolls of toilet paper.. but I paid for them.

Imagine if the store made you buy the TP to use!! Damn I'd plug their toilets up until they were overflowing!
