TX (supposedly but reports conflict with this)
CA (SF, CA 94121) (Castro Valley, 94552)THEY WANT $45-$50 !!!!!!!! Cheaper to go with a land line

For all the states that quote the 45-50$ rates, say a "friend" told you about special pricing. If it doesn't work once, try calling back and getting a different associate. My first time didn't work, then I mentioned that a friend had told me about special pricing, and they gave it to me.

Florida (and I assume the rest of the former Bellsouth areas) can call 1-877-737-2478.

Alabama resident 1-888-757-6500

Some tips on how to activate DSL after change: Link
If you don't want to call them and want to register your account yourself, here's what you need to do. point your browser to 192.168.0.1, the modem IP address. When prompted for login password enter: sbcyahooreg@sbcglobal.net for the login and sbcyahooreg for the password. This should enable you to connect (no kidding). Open an second window in your browser and enter attreg.att.net to register your account. Go through the registration, step by step. That's where you will set up your own login (email address at ATT) and password. Once the registration complete. go back to the modem and "disconnect". On the connect page, replace your sbcyahooreg login and password with your newly created. Once done, click connect. voila! you're set!

will any old dsl modem work? I'm guessing there's a page with all the compatible modems so we can snag a cheap one off e-Bay.

YMMV on region. I called before and they said it was not available for my region.

And your region is...?

It would be helpful to know where people have had success (and failure) in getting naked DSL from AT&T.

No Phone DSL from AT&T for $24 or $29 works in Michigan

Any Floridians have this? I'll jump all over this if it's true.

I'm on the dry loop plan. I had to ask for it, though. I'm in Ohio.

any success in CT?

I tried to get this in the Chicagoland area six months ago and was told by ATT that although available, The price would jump to $40 or $50. They claim that the reason I get this service for $19.99 currently is because of the discounts that apply to subscribers with land lines.

How to Get $23.99 AT&T Dry Loop DSL
Customer retention offer only....

Though AT&T has been talking a good game when it comes to unbundling its DSL and landline services, most of their speed tiers still aren't available as standalone products. While the company is offering a 1.5Mbps DSL and wireless bundle in seven trial markets, a few weeks ago some users in our Connecticut AT&T forum noted that existing customers could get 1.5Mbps dry loop DSL for $23.99. An AT&T customer retention rep has since leaked precisely how to get the offer:

•Call the AT&T Dry Loop department directly at 888-800-4095
•Ask to switch to "DSL direct"
•If they give you a hassle, say it's a retention offer

You can also get 3Mbps AT&T Pro service for $28.99 this way as well, but the retention deal is apparently only available in the Midwest, Southwest California, Nevada and Connecticut. Note: this won't work in Bellsouth territories, as they offer an entirely different dry loop offer. We're still waiting on that territory-wide, 768kbps dry loop DSL AT&T promised as a BellSouth merger condition."

Available in Noblesville, IN. Just got switched from $65/mo (ph/dsl) to $29/mo (dsl).

Happy Jax here!

Edit:
Just to give some more useful info in case it's helpful for somebody...

The rep gave me no problems at all with switching over - I just asked for the "Dry Loop DSL Package" and she got me setup for it. She said it was a no-obligation/no-contract deal so I can keep it for as long as I want. She said that I could continue to use my current DSL modem. She also said that they'd have to disconnect my phone and DSL service 2 days before they install this service. I asked a bit more about that (because I don't like going without internet) and she said it's because they have to install new stuff at my house on the outside since there's no longer a dial tone for the internet signal to piggy-back on. Oh, and she said to continue using the filters on my phone lines as I had previously used. I asked if there were plans coming out anytime soon that would be faster and she said that while she didn't have any specific information about anything like that, she suspected within a year or so there would be up to 6.0mbps plans.

Just thought I'd share in case anybody has questions about any of this.

I do not know if this will help anyone else but this number is for the mid-west 1-888-800-4095 .I spent about 1 hour making calls. I live in Ga. 30663 zip code. I was told all that was available for me with dry loop was
[1.5 Mbps] for $37.95 and that the person I was talking to could not give me the price with taxes.

This works in Chicago too. Not sure how long it will last though. This is how my bill looks:

Current Charges
SERVICE DISCOUNT 10/19/07 11/18/07 $-26.0
ATT Yahoo! HSI PRO N 10/19/07 11/18/07 $54.99

TOTAL $28.99

So I wonder how long the $26 "discount" will last.

too bad it is not valid in TX

Has anyone tried this in the NC area?
