BigLan said:We switched all our lights over earlier in the year and I've noticed they have a yellow tinge to them and don't seem as bright when you turn them on. After a couple of minutes I don't notice it though. That's normal. CFLs take a short period to warm up and reach full brightness, which I why I remarked that I dislike using them in areas where you just need to flip the light on, complete a short task, then turn them off and go elsewhere. Better quality units reach full brightness more quickly, but whether their higher cost is worth it is up to you. I picked up a pack of the 13/60W today. In the process of checking for DOAs with a four-bulb fixture, I discovered that the consistency of quality could also be much improved. Of the ten in the pack, four of them reached full brightness almost instantly, with a bright, white light. One lagged a little behind those four. Another four lagged behind that, with unevenness among each spiral of the tube. The final one almost seemed defective, and was noticeably dimmer than the others when first turned on. It took a long time to warm up, and even after it warmed up wasn't as bright as the others. CFLs and LEDs (which are ranked/sold by quality) may be the future, but they still need work. |

I just want to give my 2 cents on these bulbs. I had thought I got a great deal because they were so cheap. Turns out, you get what you pay for. Most of the bulbs burned out within one month. When I went to change some of them out, the entire screw assembly twisted off leaving me having to cut off power to my house in order to get pliers to turn it out manually and remove it. This happened quite a few times. I'm never going back to these bulbs again. I still got some leftover ones which I'll never be using again. But YMMV... |

same here, they harldy lasted few months (2-3). I had paid full price for them. Get them from home dp or lowes but not from costco. arct said:I just want to give my 2 cents on these bulbs. that's too bad about the costco CFLs. We're in the process of trying to convert our bulbs to CFLs and it seemed like a good deal, but I'm going to steer away from the Costco ones now. Thanks for the input - glad I found out before rather than after. |

rcrooks said:Shaithan said:Is this "soft white", "natural white" , "white" or with "Day Light" lighting?
OP its a great deal if it has "Day Light" as it costs around $6 elsewhere
If it doesn't make it obvious, assume they are 2500-3000k color temp, which is yellowish dirty light, like incandescents.
Daylight is somewhere between 5000k and 6000k, which is pure white.
I get mine from 1000bulbs.com for around 6 bucks a piece. The difference in light quality is worth it to me. I bought about twenty 30w 5000k bulbs. I think that there's an urban myth out there that more color temp = better quality. I just tried a 100w-equiv 6500K daylight bulb from Lowes and thought the light was pretty much light blue and only good for a greenhouse or something. The cheaper lower-temp bulbs are "better" to me even if only because I'm used to the "warm" yellow light of incandescents. I was surprised because I thought the higher-temp would be handsdown better. |

But YMMV... next time you screw your bulbs in, don't use pliers! i have NEVER had a bulb (including regular incandescent) that separated from the base while unscrewing unless i had overtightened it while installing it. i replaced all but 10 bulbs in my house with CFL bulbs in the last couple weeks - i had a bad bulb, took it back to costco and they refunded me a prorated amount based on the 6 pack flood price. if your bulbs lasted 1 month and you didn't take them back, i say shame on you - costco would have taken them back with a smile! as of last week, this deal is a no go in AZ - i'd have to look again to see if APS is offering a similar discount - they did this about 4 months ago, with a huge discount, but the discount as of last week was much smaller - i paid almost $13 for a 6 pack of CFL floods! |

For those in the more southern areas of California, Henry's Market has a box of four 23-Watt fluorescent bulbs (100 Watt incandescent bulb replacements) on for $1.99 in SDG&E packaging. |

I bought the 90 watt version CFL's 2 months or so ago, here in Mass. They had a rebate, so it was dirt cheap, as posted in the OP. Unfortuneatley they never would fully warm up, even after 10 minutes. I've been using CFL's for at least 8 years now, and know about the warm up issues etc.. I've had them in 90% of my house for at least 5 years. I used to buy them online to make sure I got the correct color temp. But they were $8/bulb . It is a real shame as Costco had a previous version that came in a box that was fine. These ones are NG. Returned them. For an equivalent to incandescent lights you want 2700K color temp. These bulbs don't define this, but I think they were OK on that front. Too bad, would have been a great deal. |

The instant rebate on these is in also effect in New York. I got three packs each (the limit) of the 100W (23W actual) @5.99 per/pack, and 60W (13W actual) @1.79 per pack, indoor floodlight for use with high hat lights. Not a bad deal. |

I just came back from Costco in Northern California, and it appears that the PG&E instant rebate is over. The price is back at $12.99 for a pack of 10. |
