Just came back from local Costco (Bay Area, CA) and they have the 10-pack 60W fluorescent bulbs for $1.50 after instant discount of $12.50. Original price is $13.99. They also had 6-pack 100W fluorescent bulbs (uses 23 watts) for $5.50 after instant discount.

Go green and give me some green

Which location? If this is in Austin, TX I'll give you green.

This was in Bay Area, CA. They had Stacks and Stacks of these bulbs. PG&E is promoting the instant rebates for using eco-friendly bulbs.

Great deal for those of us in CA, but you should put that in your title if you want to avoid the red. These are definitely heavily subsidized by PG&E.

anyone buy a few packs and send it to chicago,il?

Exactly, most of these deals at Costco in CA is subsidied by P&E. For those in Chicago area, Ace have same deal a few weeks ago which subsidied by ComEd

Updated the title. Is Costco known to carry local deals? I thought all costco locations have the same price.

These deals, subsidized by power companies, can vary by state. No, they are not all the same everywhere at all
when it comes to these items, and like was mentioned, put CA or California in the title.

They sure do. You may have noticed that in previous years (and hopefully this year too), Costco in the Bay Area carried lift tickets for Kirkwood at Tahoe during the winter. I don't think too many people in the rest of the country would be too interested. Many items are nationwide, sure, but they do add some regional flavors to their stock.

Moved to TN from CA. No such subsidies here. However electricty rates are about half $.08 KWH in TN vs $.17KWH in Orange County.

I bought the Feit Electric bulbs at Costco in Utah a month ago with an instant rebate from RMP. They are ok, but not as good as some I bought from Home Depot. They take part of a second to turn on and a minute or so to warm up, but for the cost, it is still a great deal.

wow, I have so many left over from the last deal at albertsons (3 for 99c) but I can't resist. If my store has it I'll pull the trigger! Thanks OP!

I replaced 10 bulbs of 60w incandescents with 13w cfls. However, I added 30 more lamps to my house to make up the difference. I think it's too bright right now though.

So it is not per se YMMV. It is more like YMWV if you are not served by PG&E.

If you replaced 10 and added 30 more, your electric bill is not likely to decrease much.

Reminds me of the ever decreasing long-distance/international phone rates over the last 30 years. The cheaper the rates get, the higher is my long-distance/international phone bills.

Wow! $.17 a kwh. At least it doesnt get as hot as it does here in Texas.

sorry double post

This deal sold out in Orland Park, IL a few weeks ago.

Just bought a 10 pack (13W=60W) for $13.99 - $6.00 = 7.99. BTW, tax on 13.99.

Go White!

Can somebody give me a length dimension of these bulbs? I like the CF bulbs, but they are a little long to accommodate the electronics. They poke out of fixtures. I like them to fit in the same physical space as the old incandescents.

Damn! I bought 4 boxes last week for 3.99 + tax on 13.99 each.

I'm in the bay area as well. Wonder if it's worth the time to dig up the old receipt to rebuy & return.

Man, even at a 10-pack for $13.99 its a good deal. These are pretty expensive at other stores usually. I think a 3-pack is $8 at WalMart.

I already have environmentally-friendly bulbs, but wanted to thank the OP for being green by giving him green =)

None here @ Costco in DE - happend to be there today

are these dimmable? how much are dimmable fluorescent bulbs?

Is this "soft white", "natural white" , "white" or with "Day Light" lighting?

OP its a great deal if it has "Day Light" as it costs around $6 elsewhere

No.

The packing just says 'Replaces standard light bulbs, use anywhere'. Here is a link to Conserv-Energy CE13T 13 watt Spiral CFL Bulb product details which I bought from Costco today.

My local (Bay Area) Lowe's had Feit Electric ESL18TM-4 Warm White 18W Bulb 4 Pack (Lowe's Item# 95587) for $1.49 (originally $4.99).

Thanks OP, Green for you!

If you have So Cal Edison you can go to their web site, do an energy survey and they will mail you a free 23w bulb and a free shower head. I did it about a month ago and just got my delivery. Can't beat that price!

Too bad their mercury is so TERRIBLE for the environment Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs Dump 30,000 lbs of Mercury per year

AllAboutTheMusic said: Too bad their mercury is so TERRIBLE for the environment Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs Dump 30,000 lbs of Mercury per yearThat article says, "Breaking one mercury light bulb in your home can contaminate your home to such a degree that hazardous materials experts are needed to remove the mercury." I wish I knew that when my lamp fell over last year and the bulb broke. I could have at least aired out the room (assuming the article isn't exaggerating the danger).

yeah i broke one when it fell out of the box...for some reason i don't think poison control would have sent a hazmat team if I had called them and told them I broke a light bulb

I don't believe this guy's article. He has started a competing company to sell expensive LED lightbulbs. EcoLEDs What better way to promote your company than to badmouth the competition, (CFLs). If I remember correctly, a CFL contains 5 Mgs of mercury per bulb. I hardly think breaking one bulb and releasing 5.0 milligrams of Hg is going to cost thousands of dollars to clean up by calling in a Hazmat team. Frickin' scare tactics. It's an urban legend snopes

edit:
The guy's article implies there are all from CFLs by the title "Compact fluorescent light bulbs contaminate the environment with 30,000 pounds of mercury each year". The truth is that there aren't that many CFLs around. Most of this number of 30,00 lbs, if accurate, is actually from the long fluorescent lamps, The 4ft and 6 ft models you see in worksshops etc, and not from these CFLs.

At 5 mgs of Hg per CFL, to reach 30,000 lbs would mean we are disposing of nearly 3 billion of these CFLs per year.

5 milligrams/bulb is: 200 CFLs/gram x 454 grams/lb x 30,000 lbs = 2,724,000,000 bulbs we bury every year. I doubt it.

The smaller ones (60W) are the same size and fit all my fixtures without poking out.

If it doesn't make it obvious, assume they are 2500-3000k color temp, which is yellowish dirty light, like incandescents.

Daylight is somewhere between 5000k and 6000k, which is pure white.

I get mine from 1000bulbs.com for around 6 bucks a piece. The difference in light quality is worth it to me. I bought about twenty 30w 5000k bulbs.

They are not "day light" bulbs which are expensive. These are like incandescents bulbs you get... hence the name "replacement bulbs".

23 w (100w) 3 pk $7.99

I don't know when the sale ends.
