how the hell is sugar "kosher"? A rabbi blesses the sugar cane before it is cut down? Like slitting the throats of live cows and having them bleed to death on their own blood by a rabbi and that is "kosher".

Actually, I believe its Kosher for Passover, which means something different than 'the way you slit a cow' - - first, why not look it up on Google?

Secondly, corn, being a grain, is not Kosher for Passover. Therefore, Corn Syrup (or more precisely High Fructose Corn Syrup) would be not Kosher for Passover.

Sugar is therefore a Kosher for Passover option, as sugar is not a grain.

So that's how the hell sugar is kosher.

Nice phrasing by the way. Shows respect for other people's beliefs and all that!

Ciao.

Ok...I had to go to my local taqueria to try this stuff before I bought a whole case. Honestly I can't taste the difference between this cane sugar coke and the HFCS stuff. The only thing I notice right now is the carne asada gas coming up all afternoon from drinking 2 cokes!

sorry to use the word "slit". I'll use the Wikipedia quote: "severs the jugular vein, carotid artery, esophagus and trachea in a single cut with an unserrated, sharp knife." I have seen this happen at a slaughter house and the Rabbi pulls this out of the cows throat. I am not trying to be insensitive but wanted to know how this compared to the term "Kosher" with the sugar in Mexican Coke.

I don't drink coke, but as far as I am aware, Coke has a kosher symbol on it year-round, and, therefore HFCS is just as Kosher as Sugar. Evidently, however, as the above poster explained, HCFS is not kosher for passover, so real sugar, which is more expensive, is used instead.

This whole roasting pig will go well with Coke and sugar cane cashsa!

In Indianapolis area, haven't seen this at costco there.......However Jones is pretty good stuff.

How is this a "Hot Deal"? $18 for a 24 pack of 12 oz soda...granted it's bottled. I just bought a couple of 12 packs of Jones Soda cola flavor for about $2.50 each this past weekend at WinCo, and I actually like it better than Coca Cola.

That seems like a lot better deal to me. $5 for 24 12 oz cans and better taste. Of course, I do have to agree that some of Jone's other flavors are pretty nasty like their Lemon Drop, but their cola is actually pretty good.

Anyway, $18 for a 24 pack is not hot IMHO.

I will go out of my way and pay extra to get Coke made with real cane sugar and packaged in glass bottles. I CAN tell the difference. If you can't, good for you. Save your money and buy the el cheapo store brand cola. I happen to like real Coke better. Thanks OP I will definitely look in Costco for it. I wasn't aware of the Passover Coke formula. Thanks for that info also.

Jones isn't that good, has a weird taste.

Goose Island stuff isn't bad.

I have never seen the kosher for passover in the area either.

MC

Since HFCS triggers my allergies and other sugars do not, for me there is a huge difference.

You know that was the way Coke was always made before the farm subsidies made corn syrup much less expensive than sugar (which is subsidized also). It was always a $$ decision by Coke, not a taste decision.

Check out your favorite jam or jelly. It is all made with corn syrup now, except the Bonne Maman line of preserves which from France.

All soft drinks are made with sugar in Mexico - my mini bar had like 6 or 7 different bottled soft drinks - Pepsi, Coke, orange, Sprite, etc. - all made with sugar, bold and sweeter taste - tried them all - also gained 12## in 8 days!

Just got back from my local Costco in Atlanta and NO Mexican Coke. I had the store manager look it up and she could not even find it in the system. It must be a west coast thing. If possible, someone provide the item number found on your costco receipt.

If you are allergic to corn syrup like me, I've had good success finding products at Trader Joes which are made with cane sugar (jellies, jams, salad dressings, catsup, sauces, soda, candy, etc.) And the prices are competitive with the corn syrup counter part.

It sure will be interesting to see what the impact of corn based fuels will have on usage of corn syrup in our food supply.

One comment on Passover Coke: In Atlanta, it's distributed only in 2 litre bottles and has a yellow cap. For some odd reason, Coca Cola does not change out the label. The label still says corn syrup in the ingredients, but after calling, I was assured no corn syrup is used. The cap does not list the ingredients, but does contain the circled "U" with a "p" representing that it is in fact kosher for passover.

Living in Atlanta (home of Coca Cola), I've made multiple calls to Coca Cola requesting the cane sugar original formula as an alternative. I'd be willing to pay a premium. Maybe if enough people call and request Coca Cola will consider our request.

Costco stock number 179571, listed as "COCACOLA MEX" according to my receipt.
