Is MyFaves free for incoming calls from those 5 numbers?

Looking at the feature description it sounds like it is for outgoing calls only

T-Mobile myFaves gives you unlimited calling to your 5 favorite people

T-Mobile has all the information you need on the MyFaves plan, but yes it is unlimited calls to the 5 numbers, meaning in or out.

Ok i'm sorry, but i must be missing something big time... I have grandcentral too, but to me it's more like just an voice mail box that people can call and leave messages, how do you guys make it so that it actually forwards it to your phone?? somebody please help, i will try to get some invites for the FW'ers too.

I just found out about the service and need an invite if you can PM me one that'd be cool. But I was looking over the site a lot and saw that it can do a lot of stuff. http://www.grandcentral.com/home/features look there at all the features, looks like if you login to the site you should be able to setup forwarding numbers for lots of different numbers.

Hi,
I am using Skype at the moment, with my cordless phone and an adapter. No land-line, and no incoming calls. I can make outgoing calls.
It appears that I can use GC + Gizmo + Adapter + Cordless Phone to make outgoing calls, as well as receive incoming calls.
Would someone please point me (and I am sure, many others) to where I could get more info on how to set this up? Or detail it right here?
Thanks!

tpoplaski said:I've been using Grand Central for quite a while now, so far not a single problem or complaint about the service. Calls are connected by Level 3 communications, and are usually crystal clear. My cellular service is neither so good nor reliable!

Here are a several additional ways to finagle it Remember, any time you "call" someone using Grand Central, it first calls you, THEN them. As long as the Caller ID is set to always show the GC number, it will be free if added to one of the Faves type plans. (And yes, this does work with the Sprint SERO / Sprint to Home combo )

1) Leave a couple of people you frequently call in your voice mail - I have four folks I call all the time, I just never delete the voice mails, and simply "press 2 to return the call" rather than "7 to archive" or "9 to leave it as new". With only a few messages permanently there, it's not a real bother to just hit 9 a couple of times to skip past them to messages that are acutally new.

2) In addition to being able to call anyone in your address book from the mobile web version of Grand Central, you can EDIT an Address Book entry from the mobile web, THEN call it. I have an entry named "1" that I edit, then use to call numbers that aren't, and I don't wish to permanently be, in my address book.

3) Something I rarely do, but is very easy, is to set a "Quick Rule", using either the mobile or regular web, temporarily add a landline phone you will be near to your "all ring at once" list.

4) You get $5 of free OUTGOING minutes PER DAY during the beta. (unlimited INCOMING) But you have to MANUALLY recharge it. I think it's a penny a minute for calls, so the 500 pennies lasts a long time. I bookmarked the recharging page and hit it every time I check my voice mail online, so I never have to worry about a call getting cut off because I ran out of free pennies.

5) GrandCentral will work with Gizmo Project, and works WELL with it. My laptop not only works well as a speakerphone using open WiFi, but it works fine over Sprints EVDO network as well. And my Sprint phone has unlimited data and can tether to the laptop in moments I do this once or twice a month in fact, where I have to be in long conference calls while at the same time don't have a reliable land line. (Because I am working on the land lines ) Rather than run up my cell bill and drain the battery, I leave it tethered and VOIP for a few hours for free

6) There are Gizmo Project VOIP clients for Windows Mobile and Palm phones. If you have unlimited data use on your phone, you get unlimted calling that way too I haven't bothered with this yet, but I've heard it works reasonably well depending on your phone.

7) Gizmo Project will work with several VOIP phone adapters. Think free "Vonage" if you don't mind placing the calls using the Grand Central web page. You can also just buy outgoing Gizmo Project minutes. I got my defunct SunRocket adapter working this way.

So anyway, the only hassle to get unlimited free incoming calls (and since you call your number, free voicemail checking) is that your caller ID won't display the real caller on the phone. You do, as has been mentioned, get an audio caller ID that largely makes up for it. It is a good bit more hassle to get unlimited outgoing calls, but not that big a deal to use the mobile web or regular web to dial. I use the voice mail trick most of the time myself.

Good Luck!

Hi tpoplaski,

DO you have the link for the "recharge for outgoing minutes". I can't find it on the site.

Thanks.

Ok I gave 5 invites out. Ill make another account and allow some more when I have some time. Until than no more PM's please. So mannnnyyyyy

GC lets the caller ID through....so you're wrong!

So i signed up using the 'reserve' option the site. got a code a few hours ago.

Tested the service. What I didn't like immediately was that the automated voice says something like, "Please state your name so we can notify the Grand central subscriber that you are calling".

I would like this service to be completely transparent of the fact that I am using GC at all. Can that be disabled?

Thats not true. The google service asks the person for their name and you hear it when you pickup the call, before you choose to answer their call. It is worth noting though that if you already have tmobile you cant just add this service as you have to have a myfavs specific phone...doh!

I just had to respond to that last bit about needing MyFaves-specific phones. You don't need a MyFaves phone to use the MyFaves service, or even to sign up for one. The CSR will tell you that you need one, that non-myfaves phones are incompatible and will cause billing errors, update problems, your plan will be automatically changed, etc. However, none of this is true and if you manage to get a CSR to change your plan to the myfaves plan, then you're set. If they ask you if you have a myfaves phone, you can say that you're buying one off eBay and that you don't have it yet, or that you've bought one off your friend but it's not with you, etc. They don't need a serial number or similar to change your plan. Then just use the tzones page to change your contacts and you're fine. You may even be able to use the tmobile.com site to change your contacts. I've signed up for and used the myfaves plan with a Treo 650 (not myfaves compatible) for almost a year, no problems.

MyFaves works with any tmobile phone, even non-myfaves ones.

whats the link and where do I check my balance?

And my Sprint phone has unlimited data and can tether to the laptop in moments
What do u use to keep sprint from knowing you are tethering?

Rather than run up my cell bill and drain the battery, I leave it tethered and VOIP for a few hours for free
So you don't have a myfaves thing? if you do, why would it run up your cell bill?

There are Gizmo Project VOIP clients for Windows Mobile
I've looked far and wide and couldn't find any, maybe you can help?

Thanks

You can also check out Centennial Wireless. ALL incoming calls are free.

I've been itching to do a blue tooth tethered PDA to use GrandCentral click to call. And see if I can get the free incoming and outgoing to be a bit more portable then having to be around a PC.
