Also comes with a free printer after mail in rebate. It might be possible to make the deal better with coupons. I've been trying to pricematch this at OfficeDepot all week because they had it for $199 with $50 MIR but they are sold out online and i was told that the model is being discontinued. If so, this may be the last good price you will get on it.

Just my 2cents.
true, the SD1000 is the typical 'aimed at the uninformed consumer masses' camera model that most makers have. They use a big model number and big spec numbers to make people think they're getting a bargain at a lower price, when it is actually the less capable model.
LexLuthor said: True, but it's also way cheaper than the SD800.
It's not a MUST to use a tripod, that's just a rediculous statement.
I'm sure the IS helps, but for most situations, this camera should take very nice pictures.
I have experienced quite a bit of digicams and across all the boards. Most of the users when they use this SD1000 would think that the image is crisp until you download on your comp. It is a disappointing fact. Due to price point some might not care but I would hate to see my kid's pracious moments blurred out due to lack of IS.
I am not saying either way just letting people know and they should decide. Have a happ thanksgiving ya'll.

It's amazing how many negative nancys there are around here. "This $150 camera is not as good as a $250 camera".
stabilization is a nice feature. It's not necessary for all pictures. To say its worthless without a tripod is just stupid. it's all defendant on shooting speed for the pic. what did people do for years before image stabilization???
As for this deal, I just bought this camera from Staples - price matched the previous CC price (169.99), plus used $30 coupon (as well as 2% from jellyfish and 5% from my AMEX).
Hopefully I can get Staples online to now match this price.
Pulease! IS is certainly not required to get excellent pictures. Still using a SD400 and have taken 1000's of amazing pictures. Guess what? It has no IS and I don't even own a tri-pod! Some of these bold statements about IS being required or your little kiddies pics will suck, etc are flat out retarded!
For us "uninformed" consumers this a awesome tiny little camera (smaller than any Canon IS model by the way). While IS is a nice feature it does add bulk and is hardly a must have to get excellent pics!

Is this camera better than Kodak EasyShare M883 or Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W55?
Want to buy this but the printer is out of stock. CompUSA has this for $179.99 and their stores are open tonight. Anyone know if they will price match?

Image Stabilization is just one of those marketing gimmicks to get the "uninformed" consumer to pay more for something that doesn't really give you that much improvement. Some IS just boots up the ISO and claim it's IS which also gives you grainer pictures. Others have the IS mechanism directly attached to the Image sensor but even then it maybe gives you one or two stops max. I've seen the tests performed on Digital SLRs and even then the improvement was slight to none at all. Every digi cam has it's own IS, it called "using a higher ISO" which basically gives you a faster shutter speed and sharper pictures. IMHO, save your money until the technology is improved.

$170 @ Amazon - no printer to go with either but $170's not horrible if you're pressed to buy...

This was sold out online and in-store for me.
For those of you still looking for a good deal for this camera, I just bought it off Newegg.com for $172.99, and it came as a combo with free 1GB SD card and a case for the camera. Not too bad of a deal, in my opinion. I also saw the camera at Office Depot for $199 with a $50 mail-in rebate.
Oh - for the people looking for the Newegg.com combo deal, you need to go to the combo section on the page (on the left, down below the product pictures) and click on "View All." You'll find the combo deal with free 1GB SD card and case on that page!

I just picked up the camera alone online today --took me a couple tries. I think I got two messages of "not in stock", but I kept closing & reopening CC website via FW Cash Back page, and finally got through no problem. Got the receipt page displayed, w/ a confirmation order #, but have yet to get the confirmation email. Keep trying! This is a great deal.

If you want to take non-flash shots indoors, I would say it is required. It just depends on what you're going to use your camera for.
