Stating the BRAND NAME and what the unit actually is in the title would have been informative instead of just stating a model number......

Can't speak for the refurb, but my new 5440CN is awesome, got it from fry's for $49 with no rebate a little while back, does everything. Built in ADF, built in networking, cartridges are unbelievably cheap. $29 is a great deal, even better if you can stack some coupons.
bought one with 3x$3 ink coupon. $24.68 shipped AR.

Great price. I recomend this machine at a lot higher price. I use this Brother 5440CN machine in my office as a fax/scanner/light copier. It works great. It is black/white laser toner not color inkjet. Only quirk is I can't get it to scan legal size paper. And never use any other laser toner than genuine Brother toner. The same for Brother inkjets. I paid $100 for this machine three years ago and it is still going.

I just got one. How come others say its OOS ? The cheap ink tanks and Network capability sold it for me. Submitted the rebate too - gotta love Staples easy rebates. Thanks, OP
Edit: Forgot to add, this thing uses Brother LK41 series ink carts which cost about $1 on eBay. Separate carts for black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow.Product pages says Cartridge type LC41, not LK41. Is there a difference ?

Are you sure it uses "black/white laser toner". The sales brochure that I linked in my earlier post shows that it is an inkjet printer. Also, you can scan a legal paper using Automatic Document feeder, but not through the platen. I have a feeling that you might be confusing your AIO's model number with this one.
I hope so anyways because I just ordered a bunch from 123inkjet. I picked up 21 cartridges from them for $55 shipped with a 30% off code they emailed me.

Abacus has them for about $49 for a 20 pack. I've ordered from them plenty of times in the past.
How's the quality on thoses from Abacus? I've used the Spectrum brand from 123inkjet before (not for this printer but others) and they are good quality products.

Does the inkjet included? If not, where to buy? Thanks!

Interesting...
When I use my regular Staples account it shows out of stock... When I create a new account and use a one time credit card, it is in stock...
And it looks like they raised the price to $35 now.

So, is the instant $15 rebate gone? I do see it listed - is there a code that needs to be added? This is not referenced in the deal description.

I picked up the MFC-5840cn from Office Depot..should be delivered in 3 days... I'd like to know where the person is finding the ink's for $1 each on eBay because best price I'm finding is $14.95 for a 14 pack that has 5 black and 3 of each of the colors with $10 in shipping so thats basically $2 each...maybe I'm looking wrong.

I had just given a rough estimate that the carts are about a dollar each. I looked around on eBay and other places, and you are right, after factoring in shipping, it comes to about $2, maybe a few cents less (I see a 9 pack for $17 shipped).
Just wanted to add another suggestion here- Brother printers (including these (I think)) has some kind of optical ink sensors which keep checking the level of ink in the ink tank of the cart. All 4 ink carts need to have ink for the printer to print (so, even if u want to just print black, u still need to have non-empty color carts). When the ink goes low, the printer says it is out of ink and refuses to print. Now, trouble is this happens even when there is about 15% or more ink left in the tank. To work out this problem some people apply black electrical tape to the part of the cart which comes in contact with the optical ink sensor. I think there are pictures somewhere on the web which show exactly where to apply the tape, use google to find out.
Here's an 8 pack (2 of each) for $12.98 shipped... (1.6225 each) which was best deal I located..went ahead and ordered...buying 2 of the 8 packs was still cheaper than a 16 pack by a significant amount.
I have a MFC-210C (uses same ink) and it is one of the best printers I have owned in the under $100 (think I paid around 30 for mine 2 years ago). Ink is dirt cheap...I order from abcink.com (Meritline). Works with Vista, doesn't take up a lot of room, and even in the "Fast Print" mode, everything is clear.
