I just used this coupon to order laptops for my kids.
I ended up calling to find out some information that was not all covered here already. In no specific order:

If you order more than 4 similar items, they will make you go to group sales where it is mandatory to pay for 2day air. (To discourage retail resales)

The coupon became valid today.

There are a limited number of times that HP will allow the coupon to be used...i.e. if you plan to buy do so now. The sales guy predicted that they will run through the allotment of coupons that they will accept before the actual expiration date.

Need to order configured product.

Service plans purchased get added into the 30% discount, but cannot be used to get the $999 minimal quantity. (I.e. need to get to $999 on hardware alone to get the discount which once effective does include the service plan.

You do not need to use paypal to get the deal, but will not get the $50 rebate.

Looks like the Free Upgrade to 2 GIG's is GONE! Not an option anymore on the homepage for HP. When customizing, it shows $100.00 to get 2 GIGS...

Just beat me to it. If it stays, the deal just went from "good" to "blah".

I'm always a day late and a dollar short!

None of the free upgrades are valid anymore.

Very hot while it lasted.

Hopped on a m9000 last night! Thanks. Order is to be shipped on Dec 3. Still no confirmation email?

I actually screwed up last night on my order and canceled this morning to do a reorder. The promotions today are SLIGHTLY better as you get a free upgrade on the hard drive to a 120GB ($40) but today you have to pay $25 to get to 2 GB. So you net about $15.

how is that? I configured the same 17" laptop and it was ~150 more than yesterday, going by what was posted earlier in this thread. possibly a better deal to go with a 15.4" model?

There are new free upgrades, like the hard drives and optical drive. Look carefully.

This is very nice:
"A customized PC that you have configured will remain in your Cart for up to seven days."

I now have one notebook with the old upgrades and one with the new upgrades in my cart.
What oh what shall I do ...

But you get 35% off, so that's more like $97. And then when you account for the extra hard drive, it's more like a $50 difference.

Not true. On the dv2500t & the dv6500t, at least, theres a free upgrade to 160GB HDD from 120, and the ram from 1GB to 2GB is discounted 75% (its only +25). So, considering that the upgrade to 160 was 40$ last nite, ur now getting the same for just 25$. I would say that makes this even hotter .

To save time for others, here's what's gonna happen after you apply coupon in cart:
"We have compared the coupon submitted to the available instant savings and applied the best offer. Promotion rules allow only the coupon or instant savings to be applied to any item."

So best possible notebook deal for NON-DISCOUNTED price of $999 is about $620 + tax;
or for desktop NON-DISCOUNTED at $799 is about $480 + tax.

Here is sample math using AZ (where I live). Hope this helps.

Notebook NON-DISCOUNTED price of $999:

=$999
-$300 (less HP 30% coupon)
=$699
+$50 (plus tax, for me in AZ is +$49.65 or 7.1%)
=$749
-$50 (less PP 20% up to $50)
=$699
-$35 (less FC 5%, which comes out to about -$34.95 for me)
=$665

Desktop NON-DISCOUNTED price of $799:

=$799
-$240 (less HP 30% coupon)
=$559
+$40 (plus tax, for me in AZ is +$39.71 or 7.1%)
=$599
-$50 (less PP 20% up to $50)
=$549
-$27 (less FC 5%, which comes out to about -$27.45 for me)
=$522

Good prices imho, but I'm gonna pass on the tx1000z tablet. I can get a ThinkPad X61 for about the same price (about $825, tablet capability is nice but a perk; -1.5 pounds is more important).

I didn't see the dv6500t listed above, but for anyone considering the dv6500z (AMD based), I'd seriously consider the intel based version instead. Price wise, it's basically a wash between the two if you decide you want at least a 2 GHz CPU, I think the AMD might be $60 cheaper. According to Anandtech, the T7250 2GHz Core 2 Duo is faster than anything AMD has AND has better battery life (His comparison was for the T7300, but it's the same Ghz, just twice the cache). I can't comment on how the T5250 and what that compares to on the AMD side. My guess is probably the 1.8 GHZ TK-58. So at the low end, the AMD is probably a better value. But if you want a mid range laptop, the dv6500t is a better buy IMHO, especially since you need to hit $999 to use toe 30% coupon.

Thanks. Of course opening this thread back up I see several replies saying that already. Don't know how I missed them the first time before I asked.
