why not online order w/ coupon for in store pick up

I tried to do that with another chair using the latter coupon, but the manager wouldn't let me. He kept telling me that somehow that coupon was invalid because websites such as Fatwallet had bypassed Office Depot's website. Is this a common occurrence?

I did a store pick up order, the local OD store , Fullerton CA, manager told me, it is too good to be truth, must be system mistake, we can't honor it. Then he cancel my order....
