lillianlake said:OP did not mention the processor, at 312mhz, it is a little weak in my mind... I bought this thing well over one year ago when Outpost had them for $199 for my dad. The 312mhz processor actually makes this thing fly compared to pretty much any Windows PDA. The only Windows PDA that had the same kind of instantaneous response as the TX is the now antiquated Dell Axim X51v with a 624MHz processor. That being said, Palm OS 5.4 is about 4 years old, hardly any new software is being developed for the Palm OS, and the last I heard the Palm OS is no longer in development (dead). This device works pretty nice as a combo GPS/organizer, it works nice with TomTom 6 and should be compatible with any blue tooth GPS receiver. Even though it is a nice device, it is quite old, and Palm OS is singing its swan song. I wouldn't touch this unless you already use Palm and have something against a Windows device. |

If you like palm PDA's o/s this is really a good price. I use one all the time in my medical practice (lots of medical programs), outside of that I really only use the contact section. The MP3 playback is cool but gets really old quick as does the bluetooth - all of which I had hardly used. The wifi sync-ing is good, wi-fi internet uses PDA formatted pages which are ok for emergency use in Starbucks. This PDA does suffer from a poor battery which after 1-2 years may need to be replaced and also some units have screen digitizer drift. I think this is a good price for sure. |

Most of them don't have the speed to be responsive like a dedicated PDA does. If you have years of contacts, appointments, etc. stored in your PDA, you'll cry when you try to import that data into a phone PDA, because all of a sudden everything grinds to a halt. |

zulu2003 said:Please consider getting Nokia N800 before you get a Palm. Nokia has built in wifi, bluetooth, webcam, excellent wide 4.1" screen 800x480, 2 x SD slots, great software (if you want to run PalmOS software there is a Palm VM in the working - Garnet VM). Detailed specs here.
You can find it for around $200. Highly recommended!
P.S. Here is my long story on how I ended up with the N800:
I needed a device to play a specific internet radio (a NPR equivalent radio from overseas) down in the kitchen. It should be grandma-proof, so I went with the Roku radio (found one for $250 at Fry's). After an afternoon of torture I couldn't make it work. Roku may be a great device someday. Returned this one and tried the SanDisk Sansa Connect, which was one nice gadget but still won't play the stream. Returned that one too and N800 was my last hope. Well N800 does that and then some. I have it setup over the fridge with the webcam Skype/gtalk ready also pulling the latest RSS news. Impressive piece of hardware and open source community is very active in coming up with great software for the upcoming new OS version OS2008. Does the N800 have decent contact software? I have an old clie that I was looking to replace; Wifi and contact info was mostly what I wanted. I do however wonder about spending on another Palm at this date. |

I got one a couple weeks ago from teh palm $199/keyboard sale and I love it- I've had it about a week! I returned my BF Garmin and got a BT GPS receiver for about $50(should arrive today). I didn't want to have to get a phone with a data plan and specifically DID want email and contacts and calendar. I think it's zippy and the wifi works great. I love being able to check email and fatwallet from the sofa with the gf. I have a Dell 700m laptop that's gonna get dusty I think... Music and videos are a nice feature. I don't know why people would get a iTouch when they could get this that has so much more at less money? |

I almost bought one of these earlier in the year, but after reading about all the problems with them locking up/resetting, and with no fixes or support from Palm, I passed. Also some say it's a bit slow. I was going to mainly use it as a GPS, but also to surf while I'm on the road. After using a Nuvi 350 and seeing the new features of the Nuv 7xx, I'm glad I didn't buy the Palm. Though if they were about $50, I'd still buy one. FYI, these came out in 2005. BTW, some of the reviews on Amazon for the N800 say it has problems too (see a comment to Barry T. Campbell's review). |

I get delivery expected (from Staples) Fri 12/14. Staples charges tax, but no shipping, and I currently have $30 off 150 coupons. (and 3% back through jellyfish and 5% back on my AMEX). Seems also that the returns are extended through 1/6/08. I canceled the order for now, but will probably order it later. It's a PDA, and it seems to do that well (including the documents to go). |

Add in 3.75% back from Chase Rewards Plus (which is taken from the pre-coupon price in my experience), and you get another $11.25 back. |

Back in stock (in theory). Ordered just now with expected delivery next Wed. 199-30 (off 150 coupon) (also used Jellyfish.com link(3%) and AMEX Cash Back (5%)). I'm not 100% sure I'll keep it, but returns now at Staples valid through 1/06/2008. Too bad I won't have it by tomorrow, as I will be traveling and wanted to test out the wifi in the hotel. |

$100 off coupon 44769 no worky. Nor does the $20 coupon 63991. Both return the following message: Expired Coupon. We're sorry, but the coupon you are trying to use has expired. |

This was in the sale flyer for 12/9 and expired on 12/15 or 12/22 - so no surprise the coupons no longer work. Dennis |
