Super does this and moreover it is free. if u have the right codec already installed you can make divx files using Super. no need to buy the mpg-2/DVD plugin. |

Yup, and I may have those codecs with other software that came with my video cards or programs, but I like DivX and for $6.99 I got the plug in that works with it. |

Thanks, OP.Me neither, can someone please elaborate, what is it. Thanks.DivX is a piece of software that compresses video files. So, for instance, you can take a 7GB DVD (encoded using MPEG2) and compress it down to 1GB or less using DivX. The quality is less than the original, but often there is not much difference. The downside is that you need DivX to watch a DivX video file. Some DVD players can play DivX, and all computers (PC/Mac) can play DivX. I personally use a Creative Zen Vision:M to watch my DivX videos. |

One, it is really slow. Two, it uses so much of your processor that it makes it hard to do anything else. DivX Pro seems better on both counts. |

ohrama said:awp said:Thanks OP!! Now just need that added MPEG2/VOB functionality and I'll be set (guess you have to pony up $10 for that).
The coupon code 30OFF will knock 30% of it. I was about to order it, but when I tried to use DivX to convert a VOB file, it says it needs a supported AC3 filter in my system. Any idea? I do have programs from doom9.org that enable me to convert AC3 files to MP3 files. Thanks ac3filter.net |

In my case Super and Divx are working more or less same. I like Super over Divx because of the versatility. you have so many options, more over you can convert many popular format to many other format. you can change the bitrates, quality etc. none of the commercial softwares have these many options. if you are really worried about CPU time, start your conversion be4 you go to bed and next morning it should have done the job. I have AMD X2 and 2GB mem. Super has a problem if you try to open more than one instance. |
