Just a guess, but these Kodak printers have turned out to be unreliable junk.
In a world where we've become used to disposable free printers that come free with ink, judging from what I've read, you'll be tossing the printer out before you invest much into ink.

This printer/scanner/copier has an infomercial where it sells for $149, with the offer improved by additional ink and a USB cable. See kodakoffer.com. So the $100 price looks good.
The infomercial compares the Kodak 5300 to another printer: 4x6 prints cost about ten cents each from the Kodak as compared to about twenty five cents for the current competition.
I bought one at $100 earlier today before seeing this post or the infomercial... Ink usage was the key issue for me. Also, in the store the demo page came out without all the colors--so maybe it is unlike my previous thirsty printer which would stop printing at all if any one of the four CMYK (cyan/magenta/yellow/black) ink cartridges was out--even if I only wanted to print black & white.
Now maybe I can find an inexpensive USB A/B cable. Hmm. A review at BestBuy says it stops when one ink is low. I'll leave it in the box for a while longer...
Got one at BestBuy this past Saturday for 100 bucks, it's working great so far. Just make sure to update the firmware, the driver, and the software. I've printed about 95 4x6 photos so far and they look great! I still have an almost full back ink tank and the color looks to be about 40% full.
