isnt the more important fact the "NEC" ? i thought NEC was like a way big favorite lat year , but then i dont keep up to date on whch is best. havent needed a burner in like 2 years now cause my old NECS are still trucking along ok.
all burners in the world are now made by the same company, sony, nec, emprex, whatever you want to call it. model # is almost irrelevant now, just look at the 18x, 20x, or whatever you want for how much. i actually like the IDE version since it can use up the now unused IDE port on the new motherboard (if you have all SATA HDD).

I like NEC DVD burners because hacked firmwares are readily available for them. However, this particular model (AD-7190S) doesn't have any hacked firmware available.

Same Q -
Newbiere here,
How can make this to be an external USB/Firewire drive? I have a eablebit 3.25 enclosure (supposedly for HDD), can I use this drive in that enclosure?
Any pointers to make me understand this better would be helpful and ofcourse be repped..
