I believe it is $29.99 for a 2 yr commitment installation is usually free for new customers - you would need a line of sight to the southern sky

This looks like a good deal for people already planning to get 1. I'm on the fence so need help from you guys. I never had cable, so sorry in advance for these questions.

The Family package is pretty weak, so I would need to get the Choice 1. Would like to hookup 2 TVs, so what would my cost be?
Extra cost for HD receiver?

Monthly Cost:
$50 Choice Package
$10 HD Access fee
$5 HD receiver lease fee
Guessing, there would be some kind of taxes involved so, roughly how much?
Premium channel is extra $5?

Yes, I see DTV has promo of $10/mo for 12 months and $50 Visa GC, but like to estimate the cost after the promo. Since I need a 2nd HD receiver, would it be better to get the Choice Xtra+HD Access for $15 more per month? Thanks.

EDIT: Looking over the options, my best bet would be to get the $65 package since has FREE hd receiver and accress plus 3 months free of premium.

Do you have 2 HD Tvs and never had cable before? are you receiving HD signals OTA? Go to the fat wallet directv page and call and see if you can get one of those deals and stack it with the AAA deal - I don't think anyone has posted on this thread yet that has signed up new. But $240 off their current promotional rates/extras would be smokin hot. To answer your tax question I believe there is minimal taxes - less than $1. HBO is $12/mo regular price - other premiums are $11/mo regular price.

I'm not sure it matters. In my experience, they've never tagged an extention on to the end. They've only been able to extend from the current date, so a year agreement when you have more than a year left will have no effect. Things may have changed, but that's been my experience. If anyone knows differenly, please post.

that would be awesome if true.....can anyone confirm?

I had DirecTV before but for two reason I switched to Cable:

1- For HD service 2 years contract needed and Cable company gave me the better price and deal.
2- DirecTV really depends on weather condition!

Usually when you add extra channels like sport package or when you need more than 1 or 2 HD receivers, cable has a better price plus cable has no contract and no worry about weather condition.

But still this is a good deal if you already have DirecTV or you want to get one.

I did sign up for directv using aaa on 12/29 and had posted this info in another thread but seems it deserved its own thread ..
Anyway they had a promotion till 12/31 that you could get 20 off for 12 months on top of aaa discount of 10 off for 24 months ..
Now it has been reduced to 10 off for 12 months with aaa offer .. There is a report on dbstalk.com that directv will be reducing the HD DVR upfront cost to $99 on jan 10 .. so i would wait till jan 10th if interested in hd dvr ..

Not to mention you have to stick a dish somewhere and feed lines into your house.

I have DirectTV but I'm switching to Cable just because it's cleaner and I hate having wires everywhere.

I love DirectTV, so extending for another year is fine with me. The AAA card is actually in my husband's name and the directtv account is in mine...they didn't even question it. Fantastic find! Thanks OP.

I made up a spreadsheet comparing what I'll be getting versus what I have with cable. It's about the same price, only I get more HD & SD channels (east and west) with DTV and I can upgrade to NFL access. I'm still on the fence with this one. If I could get an HD-DVR & HD receiver for $198 versus $298 they want me to pay, I'd probably do it but it'd only net me about $81 over the next 2 years. Not sure if I should pull the trigger on this one yet.

Is there a way to haggle with the CR to get a better deal? The deal they gave me on the phone matched the internet sign-up deal, less the $35 from fatwallet.

You need to extend your commitment for one (1) more year!

For existing customers, here is what I got:
$50 rebate on my next months statement and $50 rebate on the 13th month with an additional 12 month commitment

I had just signed up at noon today through the Best Buy program to get $300 off the TV. Read this post, signed up for AAA (which was on my list of things to do today, of all coincidences) for $33 with that coupon code for Southern New England (thanks, and what another coincidence!), called DirecTV, they suggested I cancel and re-order, so I did for the same original terms plus the $10-off/mo for AAA members. So it still works! I was worried after reading on here that the stacking promos got canned after 12/31, but I got it to go through. Thanks OP!

Thanks, OP.

Signed up for another year with my AAA number.

While speaking with the CSR, asked about any current promotions. Was able to get three months of Showtime free - will have to cancel after three months or pay the regular fee. CSR also claims that DirecTV will soon be sending emails to current customers (like myself) with incentives for HD equipment and programming upgrades (still SD here).

If you are doing a cost comparison you better figure in your local channels at 1.50 each. AND when you ask make sure you get the same question answered by 2 different people. They've been giving me two different answers on locals for 2 months now and because of franchise agreements they say I can only get 2 of the public majors (NBC and FOX) if you want CBS and ABC forget it.

I got the $50/$50 as an existing customer but the guy said he wasn't aware of any Free Showtime for existing customer. OH well.. nice anyways. Thanks OP!

Correct me if I am wrong. There was a 20$ off 12 months deal that just expired 12/31 st and noone was interested on that deal. Why this appeals to everyone.
I am asking this since I am waiting myself for a better deal.
