I got in on the DirecTV deal last month which was $20 off for 12 months, but if you read the first month bill it states the contract is for 24 months. So, essentially the last 12 months you pay full price. I called the 800 number on the AAA deal, the CSR told me by signing up for the deal I would extend my contract by another 12 months. So, I could get $30 off upfront for 12 months, but I'm stuck with full bill for 2 years after that. Didn't pull the trigger... I wish this thread was posted last month! |

Thanks to OP. I just upgraded to HD DVR via other post- install about 2 wks ago (which gave me another 24 months committment). I just called and getting $100 credit (month 1 and month 13) was nice since I just re-signed anyhow. |

I am an existing Directv customer and a AAA. So this is an easy deal for me. So I called the number and after giving the first 6 numbers on my AAA card the CSR said that this system is down and the $100 rebate update is not happenning and to call back again. So I called again today and still the same issue. Did anybody get the 'Cannot update. System down' reply from the Directv CSR. |

No matter how I configure myself, cable is cheaper for me. I don't understand the appeal. Granted, I'm on a "retention plan", but I've been on one for years...10Mbps internet, HD service for 2 TV's, 1 HD DVR, all the premium channels for ~ $100 per month. I don't understand the appeal of DirecTV or Dish... |

DVR 9.95/mo HD boxes another $6/mo + $7 for digital tier programming. so you get all the channels comcast provides for $35/mo when the normal price would be $80+/mo ever play that card game bullshit? I bet you lose - a lot |

I had signed up for the $20/month off deal last month and then found out about this deal. (I have not yet installed due to Holidays/bad weather/been too busy) They were able to cancel my pending order and STILL give me the $20 off a month on top of the AAA discount with the new account. I believe the fact that I have not had it installed yet was key to being able to cancel the existing order. I talked to two different CSRs about the $20/mo off (instead of the currently advertised $10/mo off) and so hopefully it's not some "random luck of the CSR draw" deal. It's not advertised so you might have to ask for it. I got the Choice Xtra with HD plan and 4 total receivers for $50 for the first year and $70 next year. (Standard 2 year term) Fairly pleasant experience with DirecTV so far. Although I have only two HD TVs in the house and a bunch of non-HD TVs. I wish I didn't need receivers for all of the non-HD TVs (which cable doesn't require you to if you don't need the entire digital TV lineup), which adds $5/mo to the TV bill each TV. Thanks OP! |

When I called generic number they can just check on availability of the promotion. BTW, I also got 6 free months of Cinemax and Showtime (because of Dish Network promotion)... This one I think you have to call in general number and after that they are transferring you to the competitor promotion dept. You have to make sure to cancell at the end of the 6th month in order not to be charged full price after that. |

I don't understand the appeal of DirecTV or Dish... Not sure where you live, but in many areas of the country (like here in San Diego), Time Warner wants more than $100 per month for JUST cable and HBO - no HD. My neighbors have been asking about DirecTV, as they experienced almost daily service outages during the month of December from Time Warner, and got nothing but their typical arrogant, condescending attitude. When they started charging me $8 per month each for three digital converter boxes for SDTV, I called nicely to complain, and they basically told me to have a nice life. After DirecTV was installed, there was a line of people at the local TIme Warner office dropping off their cable boxes with the same story. After the intro teasers, total for cable is almost $170 with taxes - not to mention their terrible customer service http://www.twcsd.com/Order/sandiego/RatesPricing.asp. With DirecTV and ATT dry loop, we are just under $110 per month for 3.0 Mbps internet, DVR and lots of premium channels - with great reliability and customer service from both. |

Anyone able to successfully get any part of this deal without having to add another year. I have had the service for just under 30 days and am kicking myself for having not gotten in on this deal and don't want a 3 year commitment. |

are all digital TVs HD capable/ready? if so, does that mean we will need to have DirecTV HD recivers for everything starting next year? |

By using DirecTV you don't have to worry about the analog turnoff next February. Only if you have OTA Antenna and no QAM tuner in your TV do you need to worry or make any changes. |
