BB has this drive on sale for $132.99. 10%/12% coupons just came back again today... as found here.

My store (Dearborn, MI) had 5 of them on the shelf, and they were all DTG serial numbers. I'll admit this might be a fluke, but I was happy to see it is still possible. Since the original thread is dead I thought I would post it up again, mods do as you wish.

here's an update on drives with and without 7200 rpm's , I read this in another forum that someone receive an email from support from HITACHI

Re: Hitachi 7k200 drive in USB enclosure - $131.99AC+tax @ BB

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi All,

Here is some information from the Hitachi person. This is
a snippet of his response to me. The gist of the situation
is this - there were in fact TWO versions of the H2200U:

Firstly, I must, of course, remind you that opening the enclosures in order
to get a better deal on an internal drive as described in that thread will
void your warranty on the drive, and is a practice that is not condoned by
Hitachi GST.

The model H2200U portable drive has indeed shipped with two different
drives internally. There are two part numbers for the H2200U: 0A55551, and
0A55552. The 0A55551 version of the drive uses the 5400 RPM drive
internally, and the 0A55552 version uses the 7200 RPM drive. Apparently I
failed to provide all the information when I replied to that customer's
support request. I apologize for the omission of the other part number in
the support e-mail that was sent to that customer, and for any
misunderstanding this may have caused.

As far as knowing which version of the drive you would be purchasing, it
would appear that Best Buy does not list our manufacturer's part number on
their website. Judging by the specifications they provide, they are
currently only selling the 0A55551 part.

----------------END Snippet of message from Hitachi Rep-------------

This is the information we all needed! I replied to his e-mail
thanking him VERY MUCH for the information.

It's still not clear if the 0A55551 or 2 are listed on the package!
But, I sure hope so!

Best regards to all on this. Have fun with the Easter Egg Hunt!

Original post and title updated. Drive is going on sale for a new low of 119.99 starting Feb 3rd. Coupons are still good so that makes for the best deal yet, and a chance for PM / return/rebuy for people who jumped at the last sale.

OP, thanks for the update. Would you mind posting the new 10/12% coupons for the R/R? The one in the OP is expired now.

[I also saw centrifuge41's post and was thinking R/R...]

/edit/ Sidenote... It might be easier to purchase the drive at the reduced price & coupon in regular checkout, then take old receipt and new drive over to Return Desk... that way you don't need to convince CSRs of R/R- especially if you already installed it! But I've read many FWers simply taking receipt in for a price adjustment...

Hmm I bought my first HD with 10% coupon and then yesterday I bought another one full price (didn't have a coupon on hand, when i ran into the last DTG serial)

I was thinking about buying two more with coupon this Sunday and return them, but seem that you guys think I can just bring the receipt to get price adjust instead. Would they be able to price adjust with additional coupon that I would bring also? Are they deducting from the original price (in the first case) and still keep the 10% in tact? Thanks

Found it- ripped from SD [not that I care- just don't want red]: here!

Also something to mention- the link is https://moversguide.usps.com/img/coupon/bestbuy/200801_clientarea.gif According to SD you can modify the italics to something different for a different date range on the coupon- they are good for 2 months. IE: https://moversguide.usps.com/img/coupon/bestbuy/200802_clientarea.gif is good from 2/1 - 3/31.

I think the second link will be valid on 2/1/08... so not valid yet!

/edit/ to fix links since they are "secure".

That warranty sticker is solid though, probably one of the best tamper proof stickers I've seen. Very little chance of removing it without it being noticeable.

It's been a few months since I did this and I don't have the case here with me at work, but as I recall, you don't need to remove or break the warranty sticker to take the case apart. The one sticker you do have to lift can be carefully lifted (only halfway to uncover the screw hole) with an xacto knife and then re-applied when done.

Just got the last 2 at Westland, MI. There were none on display at Novi, MI.

Just did my PM today, got $12 back. PM was a little painful because of the coupon being involved but eventually it worked.

BTW there were a couple DTG's left at the Fairlane BB by Dearborn/Allen Park.

With the $119 sale price - 10/12%, this is a really nice deal. Highly recommended.

tampopo said:none that I could find in Downey,CA. The drives are in a hard plastic case ( protect from shoplifting ) making it very hard to find the serial number. Had to stand in line for checkout to have then open case to find it was not DTG.

I just picked one up. One of each at the store. The bar code on the DTG is on this large quad bar coded sticker on the bottom of the package, center. The other had its sticker located inside the blister pack. I'm surprised you're not having to pay for the restocking fee, I'd be pissed if that happened at my store.
