So, can I return the motherboard, and keep the CPU? the motherboard is crap to me. not good for htpc

Dude, don't let that get you down. I often buy more than one of these things at a time. I don't even bother leaving the store. Most cashiers don't even care if you try to buy more than one. If they do, I just buy one then hit another cashier on the way out further down the line.

There is no issue with the cashiers as long as you use different credit cards whenever purchases are limited "one per customer". I do it all the time.

Absolutely. Fry's encourages it. Just don't expect any money back though.

Ok, I have both CPU combo side by side, and just by looking at the specs on the box,
(I haven't opened it yet, still deciding) here's what I can tell.

AMD mobo (GeForce 7050M-M)

no IDE?
DDR2 800 memory
NVIDIA GeForce7050P graphics built-in
(better Graphics chip?)
HD multi-channel audio

Intel mobo (945GCT-M/1333 FSB 1333)

SATA (no hw RAID)
support UltraDMA IDE devices
DDR2 667 memory
Not sure if this mobo has Graphics chip embedded,
box just says VGA=yes?
6-channel audio built-in

Now the CPU:

AMD Athlon X2 Dual-core (BE-2300)

1.9 Ghz
Energy Efficient 45W
Cool n' Quiet technology

Intel Pentium Dual-core (E2200)

Consumes more energy? (this is not the energy efficient Core2 Duo).
Does this CPU runs hot??

Right now I prefer the mobo with the better Graphics chip. comments anyone?

if you can get either get the e2180. the e2xxx have the same architecture as the e4xxx and e6xxx. jus a slower fsb (800mhz and less l2 cache). it will beat the BE-2300 at the same or slower clockspeed. look at it as getting the processor for half price and just buy a decent board in the store when ur getting the combo. sell the ECS on craigslist or something. thats what i did.

You can get E2200 or E2180 for the same price, but while they print your order at computer parts section you better supply the SKU numbers. So that you will get E2200 for sure.

Man, that's a good one. I haven't heard something that funny in years. AMD CPUs are slower at the same clock then Intel CPUs. So a 1.9Ghz BE2300 is about the speed of a 1.2Ghz Intel CPU. It's not even in the same ball park. Also, AMD CPUs are mother earth raping power eaters. Get an Intel CPU to save the planet and your wallet.Let's not get carried away. Link Intel is a little faster while AMD is slightly more energy efficient.

whoa! i didn't know that. How did Georgia get 2 while New York/Philadelphia area didn't even get one. Hope they expand faster in the northeast direction.

I did. The heatsink and fan were not listed on the box contents which freaked me out, but it was heavy and pretty obvious it was in there. Still, I ripped open the box to double check and it was in there.

Short answer, yes.
