Fry's brick and motar Intel Dual Core E2180 processor and ECS 945GCT-M1333 motherboard for $78.99.

pretty sweet deal considering the processor itself is $83.50 at Mwave. 90 at the egg

we either need a frys b&m on the east coast or for them to offer these deals online

g2k6l0, I feel your pain

That's $10 cheaper than it was a week or two back and that was a heck of a deal. This is only $3 more than Newegg's price for an e2140 CPU, two models down from the e2180.

Are these CPU/MB combos ever available online? I'm 150 miles from the closest Fry's in Illinois and the one or two times a year I'm in Chicago seem to be weeks when there are no good sales or else I forget to check.

[EDIT: I sent an e-mail to Fry's CS and not surprisingly, got back a response saying, no, online and B&M prices are independent. Curiously, the rational given for the different pricing was that stores can be in different markets and may not have the same expenses as the mail order operation. That would be a justification for the store's prices being higher (since retail stores obviously have a lot more overhead than an online-only store), not, as in this case, for the store having lower prices.]

Confirmed in the ad for the Renton, WA store. Looks like the board also has IDE, which works well for me.

Available at Fry's in SF Bay area as well

EDIT: price was dropped $10 (from $88.99) within a month according to this webpage

nice, i think i may pick this up...

I'm tempted to make a road trip but I'd want to buy at least two of these to make it worth it. It says one per visit, right? Think I can buy one, put it in the trunk and then buy another? I don't want to get hassled but otherwise it's not worth the trip (plus I could pick one up for lousygolfer so maybe three trips into the store).

edit: Limit 1 per person. Guess I should convince my brother it's time for a road trip .

Dude, don't let that get you down. I often buy more than one of these things at a time. I don't even bother leaving the store. Most cashiers don't even care if you try to buy more than one. If they do, I just buy one then hit another cashier on the way out further down the line.

The E2xxx series doesn't support Intel's virtualization technology. Bad news for someone that wants to build a poor man's ESX server.

2 questions:

1. Is the CPU retail version with Fan or just bare CPU?
2. Will this combo work with "OCZ 2GB (2X1GB) 800MHz PC2-6400 DDR2 Memory - $49.99 - $25 MIR = $24.99"?

thanks a lot

Sounds good for my Antec 900 case I purchased from Frys the day before. The trip may worth if i can pick up the Antec TruePowerTrio 650W Power Supply for $59.99AR together.

Hmm... now I need a very good deal on the video card and the HDD which never goes down recently...

OP pls change the title to note that it's an ECS mobo. I read it as Intel.

At Fry's ECS is synonymous with RMA. They usually have a big stack of 'em with the white stickers, presumably they have a deal with ECS to buy all their returns and pawn them off on people who'll believe the story that they were all purchased by little old ladies who just didn't know how to set the jumpers.

Someone should open up a business where they buy these Fry's B&M deals and sell it to the East Coast people.

update: Fry's is also offering the E2200 with this deal. That's right, you can get an E2180 or an E2200 your choice ... both are retail boxed with fan. (at least at Concord store, likely the SF Bay area) --> $78.99

Put this microATX 945 mobo into the Antec NSK1300 mATX Cube Style Case with 300W 80 Plus Power Supply $30 AR which is also available today.

HOT !!!! (literally unless you take some steps to extra-vent the Antec cube case)

Confirmed. It's either one. Why would anyone want the E2180? Better OC potential?

I've always understood that you can call any Fry's, purchase over the phone and they'll ship it to you. Never tried it though.

Is this combo better than the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dualcore w/ ECS GeForce 7050M-M Mobo combo
from yesterday's Fry's deal for $68? I haven't opened my box yet.. If this is better and worth
the $10 more, I'll go exchange it.

yeah, can someone please answer the above question? Why choose the E2180 over E2200?
Thanks

There are people out there doing this already. Check eBay.

Can someone please explain what you have to do to connect an Optical Cable to the SPDIF out header on the mobo. Thank you

Thanks OP got mine, They have huge pallets of these motherboards sitting in the aisles at the Indianapolis store.

That's how Fry's got so big. They bought out Tandy Universe. Anyone remember that. Before that it was just a wittle store here in the bay where you could kick back on the sofas, have a coke and talk about math. Look at the trucks they use. Many of them still say Universe all blacked out.

Is it better than the BE2300 deal? Hmmm..... HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like the $68 combo is little better as BE-2300 processor is 1.9 Ghz with low 45W power consumption. Also the GeForce7050M-M motherboard supports DDR2 800 RAM.

Man, that's a good one. I haven't heard something that funny in years. AMD CPUs are slower at the same clock then Intel CPUs. So a 1.9Ghz BE2300 is about the speed of a 1.2Ghz Intel CPU. It's not even in the same ball park. Also, AMD CPUs are mother earth raping power eaters. Get an Intel CPU to save the planet and your wallet.

Not to mention an E2200 is at 2.2Ghz anyway

Anyone verified in Austin yet? If not I suppose I can head over after work and check...need to dump something in my P180 (Not from recent deal....but about 1.5 years ago)

is this price after rebates , I have never bought a combo from frys' , if so do you ever get your money back ?

no rebate hassles!

Are they offering the E2200 at the same price in Southern California as well? (i.e. Anaheim, City of Industry or Fountain Valley stores)

Give us one of you Meijers and we'll give you one of our Frys.

I'd rather swap for an Aldi.

yousearch said: Are they offering the E2200 at the same price in Southern California as well? (i.e. Anaheim, City of Industry or Fountain Valley stores)

Yes - just bought one at the Fountain Valley store, although it took CSR a while to figure out how to replace E2180 by E2200.

wow awesome deal , I'll have to take back all that crappy stuff I said about fry's. I went today after work and got this combo, I mentioned that I heard they had the 2200 also for same price. Customer Rep said all they had left were the E2200's, awesome!

heres how it rung up
e2200 retail 50.95
ecs 945GCT-M 28.04
tax 6.32
total $85.31

amazing 95 dollar processor for 50 bux , I will have to hit up their combo deals more often , this is like the best deal I have ever gotten at frys, I had given up since I always leave empty handed when I go up there.

I gave up, so drove to frys, tell CS the magic word,E2200,and he knew what I was talking about, I am sure after .5 yr, the frice will be $48, but well, 1 more desktop at home, priceless.

ultra is not known as a good psu maker. they are mostly known for putting glitter on junk.

Here's an opinion to the contrary:

Jonnyguru.com review of Ultra X-Pro 600w PSU

This guy, who is a professional PSU reviewer, was so impressed with the 600w Ultra that he kept it for his personal system.

Here's another extremely positive (9.5/10) review of an Ultra PSU:

Jonnyguru.com Ultra X3 1000w PSU review

Granted, these are not Ultra's lower end models and may be substantially better than their cheaper PSU's and/or made by a different manufacturer for Ultra with more of a reputation for quality.

Those are very specific power supplies that he is talking about and not typical of their line. I had trouble finding the exact same model when I was in the market and ended up paying more for Corsair HX620. Wish I would have just stayed with my OZC 520 powerstream since that was enough power and ran more silent.

Most of what Ultra made was sub par compared to antec etc, but even those lesser ones would get the job done unless you got a bad one. 600 watts should be plenty for most dual core, single video card systems with 1 or 2 hd's and an optical and a few case fans. But take the time to check how much power you'll need before hand and give yourself a little space.

This is a nice little tool to check how much power you'll need.
