What does that mean ? Ok, the Sony brand commands a premium of some sort (retail), but how exactly does that translate into THIS deal ??
I do not know myself. The price for the specs, general build quality, and "features" seems pretty good and there seems to be a consensus on this ?
Is there still a premium in this $599 package ? - if yes compared to what ? What deal is comparable that would gauge the "SONY" premium if it exists in this particular deal. I thinking about this and I'll probably miss out by waiting. I happen to like Sony stuff in general, but I would like to "know" I'm getting the biggest bang in my laptop purchase ??

Is the $50 rebate valid on this as well, which would take this to $549 + tax??
nice find. the main difference for me on these 2 laptops would be the 1GB memory on the Sony versus the 2GB memory on the Gateway. The Gateway also doesn't have s-video but that would not be a deal breaker for me.
So considering I'd spend about $30-50 to get 2GB memory separately, for someone who wants it all in one purchase, this Gateway is a pretty comparable deal for an extra $30. (Also now that the Sony is back up to $699 then the Gateway is still a good option).

Just received my Sony VAIO today. It's pretty nice looking. Time to upgrade the RAM and i'm good to go. However, it didn't come with any CD's?? Computers don't come with CD's these days?? What do I do if I want to uninstall all that garbage that came with it, but change my mind and want that program?
Or what do I do if I format? How would I get vista back and the serial key?

Most of the new computers/laptops nowadays don't come with the recovery disks anymore, instead they come with a recovery partition... you should see your drive in 2 partitions, one is for the recovery files and the other is your main partition for everyday use...

Hi,
I did order this Sony laptop on Monday 21st and got it on Wed 23rd (3 day shipping for $4.99). It looked nice and runs good & fast after upgrading to 2GB ram (@ Fry's for 37.99 no rebate).I do have 1 question, i hope someone might know about this: - When i go to Control Panel - System: the processors is Intel C2D T5250 @ 1.50GHz (as advertised on CC website) - But when i go to Control Panel - Device Manager - Processors......it shows: Intel C2D T7100 @ 1.80GHz. If you buy this sony FZ210ce, would you please check. I think Sony did lock the speed @ 1.50GHz. Thanks KD
If you have a copy of Vista do yourself a favor and do a fresh install...even with 1gb you'll see a big diference If you wanna reinstall some of the crap or drivers that came with the laptop here is EVERYTHING

Hey how does this exactly work? I thought I could format my computer as soon as I got it, however it didn't come with any CD's! I don't quite understand how this works. Say if I wanted MS Works, since its preinstalled, if I format how would i get it back? How does Vista install if I want it back? There's so much SONY programs on it that I want to format to get rid of them all, and just install what I need but I'm not sure what to do since I have no install disc!
look thru the papers you got with your vaio...there's 1 page instructions on how to crate a recovery disc...FYI recovery disk would install the same crap you allready have installed ..for a fresh install you need a full copy of vista or XP (worst case scenario) and follow the link I have had provided for the drivers...

What kind of packaging did you guys get this in? Does it look like original sony packaging ? To me, it looks like a repackaged box. The laptop is wrapped in plastic which is stapled to a card board. The box itself looks like a plain brown cardboard box. There is a spec sheet pasted to it on one side which looks like an original sticker from sony. Other than that it looks like a rebagged item.
