Good deal, OP (even with shipping).
Aren't there websites that let you do the exact same thing for free using your computer?

Just the hardware to capture video efficiently and upload it would probably set you back $80

Not really. With fast CPUs you can encode in realtime without sweating so a bare bones tuner is like $9. If you do insist on hw encoding, the PVR-150s can be had for under $40 now.
I used to think that it was not worth the money to get a dedicated device like slingbox. but after getting the slingbox, there is no going back when compare to the 'Free' softwares. The set up is easy, you don't need to have your computer on all the time, no software errors, no equipment compatibility problems, faster tuning, faster video feed, all in all, worth the money.
for the orb program to work, you need an mpeg2 capable tuner/decoder, some 'old' tuners are not mpeg2.

I totally agree with you.
I got this @ Fry's B&M Black Friday for $99 and thought it was a good deal for something that seems to rarely go on sale. $79.99 is even better.
Is there anyway to buy an item that is sold-out online for in-store pick-up?
green for you op. got the last one from FRYS city of industry.
Thanks OP, stopped by the Irving, TX Fry's during lunch and snagged one. They have 3 left, 2 look like they were customer returns though. Been wanting to hook one up to the other output of my Dish DVR so I can watch TV in my study.
got me a slingbox and i used to use orb and all such, but the slingbox does so much more to control your dish box or whatever. never gonna live without a slingbox equivalent probably.
$80 for the AV is a fantastic price for sure
Picked up 1 at Frys Alpharetta GA. 2 more left in shelf. Sale ends today (according to the sales associate).
The Manhattan Beach, CA location had 6 or 7 of them on the shelf last night. FYI - most of them had $79.99 price/description stickers on them, so I don't think it's a sale. That might just be the new regular price.
Bought one at BestBuy for $129.99 and PM'd the 110% so it was $75+tax, I even had a $20 rewards gift card so came out to a great deal. It was in the Friday ad so today would be the last day of the sale for B&M unless as someone pointed out its the new price for Fry's.
Is it worth it to get one of the upgraded Slingbox's that they offer?
