Just updated our Comcast Account with a GREAT offer, when a promo ended on our account.

- Set up a cancellation request for 2 weeks out from the date of request
- Waited for a call from Comcast for a retention offer
- Received 1st Call that offered my current services to be continued for 1 year for $10 more than what I am paying now, said NO
- Received 2nd Call from Retention Department, they gave me 1 year of Digital Cable/Starz/HBO and HSI for $50/month. This includes another promo for a free HD DVR box for 1 year.

This in the PA/Northeast Region.

As stated this is YMMV, but not impossible. If that have promotion codes to give it to me at this rate, then it seems possible for others.

Retention deals are highly YMMV based on CSR, region, and a million other factors.

MIGHT HAVE TO GIVE THIS A TRY SINCE I AM PAYING AROUND $120 FOR REGULAR DIGITAL CABLE, HIGH SPEED INTERNET AND ONE HDTV DVR BOX.

is it a guarantee that you'll get a retention call?

no guarantee, but if you give them a believable reason to cancel and tell them to set up a cancellation 2 weeks out, they have time to relay your information through their retention procedures and they should call.

I had $50/month for 1 year (digital cable & internet) without any movie channels. I was simultaneously on a separate promotion for HBO/Stars for 6 months which expired in January.

I saw a TV commercial this weekend (Pittsburgh PA region) from comcast for digital TV, HD, DVR, HSI and HBO for a year for $49 or 50/mo or something like that... Tried to find info on the net and even called but no luck getting any details.... anyone else see this or am I off my meds again?

Considering that I'll get a retention call I cancelled my cell phone service 3 week in advance. Still waiting for ATT to call me back.

I saw that commercial too! But I was not fast enough in reading the fine print, ie if the offer applies only to new customers or customers currently without HSI or customers currently without digital cable or customers without all 10 fingers or some other crap like that.

I did the same thing and was actually offered a higher rate, but the transfer to the sales department offered the same package with about $5 more than the current rates.

The retention department will call though. I received a call from a third-party vendor a few days after I called to schedule a cancellation... apparently comcast outsources some of their services.

Yea my dad would do this every other year. Sometimes he gets it. Other times...swing and a miss. Just off topic about Comcast reliability of their internet. They will not consider it a "network" problem on their end until they get at least 100 users on the same local neighborhood network with problems. So lets say for example what just happened to me. The internet was going up and down all day. I could see that I was able to tracert, if you dont know what "tracert" is in command prompt look it up, past my router, past the modem, and into the first Comcast station...then it times out. I called Comcast, which is always fun, to tell them the internet is down. Their solution is to send a repair guy to my house, oh yea they charge you for this even if it is a problem on Comcasts network. If they send a repair man to your house you foot the bill. I found this out when I was talking to a neighbor who was having the same problem with his Comcast internet. When the repair guy was there he admitted it was a network problem, but had to confirm it with about 75-100 complaints of the same manner to get the Comcast's Network Engineers to address the problem and fix it. Most of the 75-100 people will get a $50-$100 repair bill from Comcast for fixing their problem. I have to call again to dispute it to get a credit for the next month. Figure how many people either don't notice the extra charge or assume that it is a legit repair charge. Comcast must make a ton on $$$$ on charging customers for repairs that are not the customers responsibility.

Bring on the red for being off topic or bring "down" a post. I dare you...

It took about 4 days. Since my initial promotion ended in July, I had no problem rejecting the first offer in the first call. I got the second call a few days later and told them my concern with the service (you can have your own reasons, cost, etc), and told her that I was looking to keep my service for 1 year and add on Movie Channels. She called me back and it was done.
