If you are in no hurry and just want to update "just because", i would suggest waiting a little while. Lots of folks are having problems with their phones after using Ziphone 2.0. I think Ziphone 1.1 is the most stable release.

It wouldn't surprise me if the "jockey" who has bubbles on his iPhone is Enderle, and asked one of his cronies to write a story about it.

So the hundred fifty plus comments about the common defect are fake too!?! That's rich!
Tried this on a brand new iPhone 16GB with 1.1.3 and it worked. Took me a couple tries to get it right. I ran it with -b -a -j but it didn't activate it at first so I had to run it again to activate it. Real easy - used the latest itunes just downloaded today.

To clarify, does this unlock the iPhone or just jailbreak it ?

Same here. It did it in like 3 minutes on the first try. This sure beats the old method. at&t is in trouble with this one (even though I am with them).

I agree. The new format is not good. Hard to read. I would prefer they went back to the old format for the forums page.

current is 2.2 go to http://www.ziphone.org/ and get newest
We have a cingular family plan which we recently renewed it with crappy LG phone so no rescue there. I plan to upgrade one phone to iPhone without data plan. How do i go about it.
1) Get the iPhone from Apple Store just like others 2) Switch my current sim card LG to iPhone (some people said it doesn't work that way even if you current carrier is ATT)
2) Download this breaking sw to lappy. Connect to iTunes and follow breaking sw guidance 3) Start using it as regular ATT phone
Am i getting it correct? Also i am sure there must be some downside for breaking like not getting upgrade sw and so. Am i correct?
There are two comments here about using latest sw successfully. Is that a go or still wait and see.
If you are already under contract with ATT (Cingular) then I would not risk bricking an expensive iphone, I would buy one and replace an existing phone and take the 2 year contract. You said you just renewed, so you are probably under contract for the next year or two anyway.
Folks that want to risk the phone are ones looking to avoid the two year commitment, want to go pre-pay, or take the phone over to T-Mobil3.

For the lazy: Where do I start the petition to keep things the old way? No need to do that - simply do the following: 1) click on "My Account" below your username in the upper navigation 2) click on "Preferences" under "Settings and Preferences" 3) click on the circle to the left of "Classic" next to "Forums Version" 4) click on "Save Changes" 5) There is no step 5. (You will now see the same old uncategorized forum content that you've grown to love)

You can just buy it at an Apple or ATT store. Use this program to unlock it, pop in your sim and start using it. You can get update fw in the future but Apple might come out with a fw that lock your phone again (1.1.1 to 1.1.2 lock phone back). You can always wait when the updated fw get release until some hack it just like fw 1.1.3.
@ Dwynne: va1234 doesn't want data plan so this is the only way to go. if he want waranty, he can always lock his phone back again and get waranty.

Does anyone know of a ZiPhone FAQ?
I have been doing my research but haven't found a FAQ. I have a 1.02 iPhone, unlocked, jailbroke and activated. Not really sure what the exact unlock method name I used, but it was the free version via the Installer App.
Wondering what I need to do to get to 1.1.3 with Google Maps GPS working. Do I need to virginize my iPhone first before updating to 1.1.3 via iTunes?
I don't have an account with TM or ATT, I am with VZW. I would like an iphone and would want to unlock it and put it on TM. I want to do post paid with a data plan, it would be nice if I could do the "my faves" deal.
Since I do not have an account with TM I would have to buy a phone and get a line on TM first? This would require a 1yr sign up on the new line to get post paid service, I am sure. Then once I have the iphone unlocked I simply remove the SIM from my new TM phone and pop it in the iphone? Or do I buy the iphone and get a new line for it w/o getting a new phone from TM? I think they will still make me sign a 1yr deal even if I bring my own phone to the party.

How many times does it have to be said in a thread about the iPhone? How do we go back to the old format?Member since 2001 -- I pray it is a joke question

If you want a "free" or a back up phone and be under contract, then you have to sign 1 or 2 year. if you don't want a contract, just sign up for a sim only (not sure if tmobile doing it but att does it). sim only mean you have your own phone so you're not getting a phone from them. once you have the sim, you can put it in any unlock phone and it will work (tmobile need one 1900, att need 850 and 1900). you're not getting any discount for buying the iphone so you can just walk into an apple or att store and buy the iphone. you don't need to sign a contract or get a line from them. hope that help you

Ok, so just as a point of reference, I bought an 8gb iPhone at the Apple Store. I took it home and followed the directions for ZIphone and literally had the phone unlocked, activated, and jailbroken within 5 minutes. I took my extra AT&T Sim (with data) and plugged it in. The iPhone is working correctly on both Wifi and ATT Edge. All features appear to be working properly including YouTube, Safari, and iPod.
this ziphone unlock, does it modify the baseband (like the old unlock of firmware 1.0.2 did?)? thanks!

Even if you unlock the iPhone, how would you use it on a different gsm carrier when you cannot open the iPhone to insert the new SIM card?

Version 2.3 is out, very quick updates. http://rapidshare.com/files/92393941/ZiPhone2.3.zip
Here's the readme.txt: Ziphone version 2.3 (16th Feb 2008)
For a full restore do:
ziphone -D
then run itunes and restore to 1.1.3 (or 1.1.2 if you like)
then at the end of restore run ziphone again:
ziphone -b -a -j
if you already used ziphone on your phone, you can skip the above command and issue only:
ziphone -a -j (after the restore)
If you find any missing icons.. or the iphone is "strange" it's because of a WRONG backup in iTunes. So, do not RESTORE a backup and set the iPhone as a NEW PHONE.
(This problem happens if you backed up things from a 'soft updated' iphone with 'dev team method'.)
Updated:
No need to set Verbose mode (its default)
To use installer you must firstly install the "BSD Subsystem" package
Usage
Ziphone -j = Jailbreak Ziphone -a = Activate Ziphone -u = Unlock (Works on both BL3.9 and BL4.6) Ziphone -e = Erase Baseband (BL 3.9 only) Ziphone -b = Downgrade Bootloader from 4.6 to 3.9, update baseband to 4.03.13 and patch the unlock.
Ziphone -D: Enter DFU Mode. Ziphone -R: Enter Recovery Mode. Ziphone -N: Exit Recovery Mode (normal boot). Ziphone -C: Make coffee.
*** only use -b if your iphone is 1.1.2/1.1.3 OOB ***
It is also possible to combine the functions e.g ziphone -a -j -u
*Added Windows batch files for n00bs*
ClickHereX3.9.bat Will call Ziphone -u -j -a (use with iphones that were < 1.1.1 OOB)
ClickHereX4.6.bat will call Ziphone -b -j -a (Downgrades bootloader be warned, use for iphone > 1.1.2)
Jailbreak will work on any OS version.
Activation will work on any OS version, except for youtube on 1.0.X (I am lazy i know)
Details on how it works and WHY it works are available on http://www.iphone-elite.org
No 'dev-team' was directly involved with this work. This program is based on the work of everyone who believed in free software. (Thanks for the toolchain!)
Thanks to geohot for his latest work. Thanks to Tissy for moral support. Thanks to iphone-elite.org for support. Thanks to Viper and Tifel and ortner for being so nice always. Thanks to PENDOR for the osx gui Thanks to mzaouara for the ascii art (he didn't use some generator he's an ascii artist !) Thanks to PsxGunDown to review this readme.
Namaste, Zibri.

Me too. I am using the Classic View as i am tying. Why Isn't something new is better? If it's not better why bother to change it?

Need some help...I have a first gen iPhone cracked for T-Mobile using ZiPhone 1.1.4 (i'm pretty sure). I am told I can download an updated file to get my cracked first gen iPhone on the 2.0 software...has anyone done this? I am afraid of bricking my phone, losing all my music/files etc. If someone could walk me through where to go and what to do I'd appreciate it.
