G51 specifications: - Total RMS power: 155 watts RMS - Satellites: 20 watts RMS x 4 (into 8 ohms, @ 1 kHz, @ 10% THD) - Center channel: 19 watts RMS (into 8 ohms, @ 1 KHz, @ 10% THD) - Subwoofer: 56 watts RMS (into 2 ohms, @ 100 Hz, @ 10% THD)
X-540 specifications: - 70 watts total amplification - 7.4 watts x 4 for front and back satellites - 15.4 watts for center channel - 25 watts for subwoofer
In my opinion, on top of the above numbers, the G51 are just plain better looking, with the control box adding some more options, gets better ratings, etc.
If you can afford the extra $32.00 for the G51s, I would (and did) go for the G51s.
By the way, the X-540s are now at $79.99 at Amazon, so Circuit City would be your best bet for the X-540s.

Was it broken? These are no where near the level of Z-680s.
No, I originally had the Z-680s as my computer speakers, but I recently picked up a 58" plasma at which point I set them up as a cheap but decent home theater. They work great, but I've been without computer speakers for about a month. The G-51s will be on computer duty while the z-680s are on plasma duty.
Sorry, I know this is a bit off topic. My neighbor just told me he's selling his Logitech z5500 speaker system without the Control pod for $75. Is this worth it? Can I obtain a control pod elsewhere for this elsewhere cheaply? I wonder if I can use a control pod from another Logitech system with the z5500. I checked the ports and they seem to be universal.

The good news is that $75 for the Z-5500 is a good price. The really bad news is that it appears, since the control pods on the Z-5500 looks to be the first part to go bad, there does not seem to be any ready source for replacement pods, and they don't seem to be interchangeable either. Wish I had better news.

Doh! Thanks. I wish they'd put that option on more of their speakers.
