Glad to see someone else still uses PC3200

Is this backward compatible to PC2100?

Depends on your mobo/chipset. My first guess is yes but that's not a real question is it?

No it is a real question. I have a Dell Poweredge 1600SC server I am using as a media server and would like to add more memory but can't find any reasonable deals on PC2100 memory. Hence the question.

Okay, sorry then.

Your Dell may be using ECC memory and I have been wrong before on this, it may take non-ECC DDR. I think it's an Intel chipset. Your best scenario is it's B&M so you can return them .. I am buying more because I need 2 x 1 GB kits that can do 250 MHz. I hope my next set can achieve that.

I believe he meant it wasn't a real answer...The real answer is that "server" memory is not what this is. This is Non-ECC memory which most people use. If you used Non-ECC memory, then the answer is yes, PC3200 IS backwards compatible with PC2100. Server memory has error correction and uses special memory, which is a little slower but more stable for use in server machines.

It must have changed since Shagger posted - it's now $64.99 AR + ~$7 shipping ($89.99 - $25 rebate).

Your server does use ECC memory, but that type of memory seems to cost less than regular DDR on eBay (a few online stores also sell ECC memory, such as PacificGeek.com). Just search for "ecc pc2100" and you'll see what I mean. If you choose to go that route, be sure you buy from a seller who accepts returns in case the memory isn't recognized by your server.

Price drop (at B&M only?) to $60 AR. One day only. I am testing them at 266 MHz, <2.8V.
