(look up promo 104908) Can someone give a definitive answer? <edit> What the heck is going on? It's seem all rebatestatus rebates lately have moved away from Niagara Falls, NY to Phoenix, AZ, but the zip codes are either 85702 or 85027. 85702 is Tuscon,AZ whereas 85027 is Phoenix, AZ. Another way for them accident have our rebates misdirected and lost!! </edit> |

Either the zip code is wrong, or the city name is wrong. One call at 877-776-1280 should resolve it. I spoke to a CSR, she couldn't find the rebate in the system yet. The rebate is "too new" as she stated ... |

The rebate is "too new" as she stated ... I'm not in this deal but I just called anyways. I spoke to a nice CSR whose name is Susan. She checked the rebate offer (dept #105375) for me and corrected the zip code - it should read Phoenix, AZ 85072. That is, the new rebate center is in Phoenix all right. I took her name just in case someone has trouble with the rebate later. You are encouraged to double check with them if you are still concerned. |

Is the MX-100 ... with no noise... better than the MX-1...
If the MX-100 achieves the NO NOISE by HAVING NO FAN, then it is definately NOT better than the MX-1 with a fan. Not if you are going to use it for more than 5 minutes at a time.
HEAT is the deadly enemy of electronics, inclusing hard drives.
Can someone recommend a eSATA add-on card? Rosewill RC-213 Silicon Image PCI Express External eSATA x1/ Internal SATA x1 3G NCQ Controller Card RAID 0/1/0+1/5/ or un-RAID modes - Retail $11.57 shipped , after $20 MIR (they jacked the price a couple of dollars in the last day) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816132010 . |

Anyone else have an opinion on whether the MX-100 is better than the MX-1? Or just an opinion even would be nice. I'm debating between the 2. TIA The speed of USB 2.0 usually caps off around 30MB/s, while eSATA gets you around 60MB/s, depending on your drive speed (most recent drives should be able to exceed 60MB/s). Just my 0.02. With the newer large hard drives you should be able to get much better than 60MB/s. My older 320GB drives do 70MB/s and the newer 1TB drives with denser plates (ex, Samsung F1) can exceed 100MB/s. Another benefit of eSata is you can use RAID if your contoller suports it. |

elton said:Great deal on a great enclosure. Paired it with a Western Digital GP drive and have it connected to my Series3 and it's awesome. The fan's not as silent as I had thought, but apparently it's hit or miss. The GP is so low in heat, I'm wondering if you could just open up the case and cut the fan wires to go silent. Anyone else think this is an ok idea? I'm thinking of doing this. Also, I'm thinking of using for a series3. Have you had any problems with the GP drive? I read somewhere that people were having compatability problems? |

I had a prelim concern about that too, but I have had no problems with the GP drive, and it's been connected for a month thus far. Rewind, FF, accessing recordings all work perfectly. Even the eSATA cable that comes with the Antec works perfectly (some other cables dont hold onto TiVo's recessed esata port), so I have to return the SIIG cable I bought. Very pleased. Love not having to constantly delete programs and/or reduce the quality of my recordings. |
