Does is come with remote? I don't see any. Something to consider is you plan on watching from a distance.

these are the ones that require media center edition right?

If I'm not mistaken, Microsoft hates QAM and so QAM is not supported in any media center edition nor Vista.

Buy.com has it for $87.24. but if you apply for Buy.com credit card they give you -$30, total of $57.24 or you can apply for their revolution card and get -$50 off to make it $37.24.

Not really worth dinging your credit over.

anyone know a good card that works with media portal (and mythtv) that supports ir-blaster for dish or coolsat (for FTA only) for SD and perhaps QAM/ATSC both?

I need the ir blaster for my receivers.

Vista preferred.

This one doesn't have an ir-blaster and i'm not sure if you can just add a serial port or usb ir-blaster to your pc? or can you? i dont use media-center junk its too restrictive for my tastes.

I would love to watch TV on my PC so I feel like I need one of these, but I am not sure how it works. I assume (I know - don't make an ass out of u and me) that I can get an antenna and get over the air stuff, but is there a way to get anything off my DirecTV? And as long as I am hijacking the thread...what about a SlingBox? I really just wanna get some sports games in the office when every other tv tuner in the house is being used.

[edited to replace SlingBlade with SlingBox - yep, that's right, I orignally wrote "What about a SlingBlade?"]

I would like to chime in and recommend the use of GB-PVR which is a **FREE** full-fledged PVR software. It has a very active user community with loads of plug-ins and help from the developer.

Yes, it likes QAM and is QAM-friendly (unlike Micro$oft)

Any comments on how it compars to Hauppauge HVR-1800 or HVR-1600?

People seemed to like this over the Hauppauge cards, especially because of their efforts (Beta drivers) in trying to make Vista Media Center QAM friendly.

You can read more at The Green Button. It is a long thread and youhave been warned

(I ended up returning this card and going with Hauppauge (after 3-previous Hauppauge cards) only because of #$%#$ Comcast and their non-standard frequencies in my area. I had to use the Hauppauge scan tool to scan my Clear QAM channels by "frequency" instead of "by country". This scan takes a good 5-6 hours. With the frequency data, I then edited the QAM.ini file for GB-PVR and finally got my Clear QAM channels in a nice front-end application. Hauppauge's WinTV app sucks. I hope this helps those who experience a similar situation w/Comcast)

I would like to backup shows from Comcast DVR. Can it be done with this? Thanks.

Only in SD using the S-Video in port.

Use a splitter and run a coaxial cable to your card and you can directly record the HD programming for all the unencrypted Clear QAM channels (read as the OTA channels in your area - PBS, ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX....) directly on your PC

I managed to get mine up and running last night on XP Pro. I have a 1600 as well which works fine for OTA but is worthless for QAM (stuttering, audio drops, etc). This card seems to do alright with QAM but one thing I did notice was that some shows that should have been high def and showed 1080i/720p in the app did not look it at all. I just went to retest but it doesn't appear there are any shows on right now to verify. One other thing I noticed was that this card has a tendency to find a ridiculous number of QAM channels which don't actually exist (my avermedia a180 did this as well). My scan last night returned 280 of which at most 25 are actually usable.

I will say that the reviews about the heat weren't kidding. I went to swap the cable from ntsc to atsc after doing a scan and the coax connector was almost too hot to touch. I really do think they're using the two connectors as heat spreaders or something.
