Pretty nice motherboard. Much better than most offered on Fry's combos in this price range.

Available at the Renton Wa Frys too!

So tempting. Just wondering if it would be a good upgrade from dual core 3800+.

Nice. Glad to see a $20 price drop on the great F3-stepping CPU.

Few months ago I bought 4800+ and the same board with the same price. I can OC to nearly 2.8Ghz stably. I assume that with this 5600+, 3Ghz should be easy.

You'd think that, but it's not how it works. The low end chips have alot of overhead to be overclocked because they reach a point of quality control where they can't build them any slower (poorer QC). The higher end chips are the same as the lower end, just with higher quality-control tests passed.

3800 X2 for $40 can OC almost guaranteed to 2.5ghz, 2.6 likely, 2.8 much eat a ton of power though as the usage is exponential. My X2 tops out at 2.7 but runs too hot like that for summer use.

Almost positive that is the bare CPU, not the boxed vrsion with cooler. Still a god buy

While you're there, look for a Memorex brand 128MB USB stick for 1.99$ - YMMV. I saw a guy walking out with a shopping cart full of them. Not the cheapest when you're comparing MB/$, but if you need a cheap flash drive for your kids or to give away, it might be worth your while. Well, unless you can get them for free, that is.

Any recommendations for an inexpensive heatsink/fan for this?

TIA

that's a $30 mobo.....
http://www.Newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813135062R&Tpk=ECS%2bNForce6M-A

but, well..... just the cpu itself should cost more than $109 usually

questions:
- does it really support up to 32GB RAM? or did i misunderstand it?
- "PCI-E x16 upgrade slot"??? it's not a regular PCI-E x16 slot then?

thx in advance

It's overclocking capability and voltage stability are pathetic compared to other ECS boards I've gotten from cheap Fry's AMD combos.

Yes, You right, MOBO cheap because only 1.5GB/s SATA.

alert mods

And you do know you don't have a hard drive that will exceed the need to have faster than 1.5G/S

That link is for an open box motherboard. So $30 is a bit low for this motherboard. The motherboard is based on older tech, it would probably be around $50-60 if you had to buy it new (Fry's sells it for $70). That being said this deal is extra hot and spicy. I picked one up yesterday to fiddle aroud with.

The motherboard supports up to 32GB RAM (if you stick 4 8GB sticks in), but all that is a marketing tactic.
It has a regular PCI Express x16 graphics card slot. Ver 1.0.

How much of an overclock are you able to get with this combo?

With this board, I could only take my BE-2300 to 214Mhz FSB when the same CPU does 280Mhz FSB easily in another cheap ECS mobo.
