You are right about the pros and cons of the Toshiba laptop deal. I guess it'll be up to the prospective buyer if he or she basically wants to save money, or spend extra money to get better and more features. I personally prefer saving money by getting the cheaper laptop even if the system is a little worse or slower because for my basic needs it wouldn't be a dramatic difference. But, I can see (and respect) opposing opinions, especially those who are into gaming and multimedia.
