DEAD! Amaz0n deal link: Foreign movie sale!!!

The Woody Allen collection, set 3 at $39.99 here.

Idiocracy at Amazon for $4.99, read here

The Oliver Stone collection at FYE, $29.99 here (credits to Mistercheap)

DEAD now! DeepDiscount link: Criterion Collection close to 60%off!
(thanks go to Mossketeer, see below)

Another significant title for cinephiles used to >$40 prices of the Criterion Collection is Federico Fellini's Roma - now at $9.99 (min price: $7.49)
Granted, the DVD authoring does not have Criterion Collection's quality, nor does it have their usual extras, but the film itself is of value here. Plus, at $7.49 it's a real bargain.

Please do not discuss here popular, but of little or dubious (if any) cinematographic value films like the Bourne trilogy or Pirates of the Caribbean (and the list is enormous). The Matrix barely makes it here, though.

I will update the thread's OP and title periodically with the new titles of real artistic value.

If you want to go higher in the cinema food chain, go to the DVDTalk forum. Thanks Mossketeer for the information.

Roma is a great movie.

love the pope scene.

unfortunately the closest most FW'ers are going to come to seeing Fellini's "Roma" is eating an onion blossom at "Tony Roma's".

There is no scene in all of cinema more haunting than the betrayal in the woods.

Besides the obvious local public or college library, if you are willing to buy used DVDs then NetFlix has a few. Here's a list:

Ingmar Bergman's Saraband$5.99
Lars von Trier's The Boss of it All$9.99
Finally Lars von Trier made a comedy (just a warning, it's not in English, unlike other Trier's films).
Christophe Barratier's The Chorus

An extra: the dark, non-compromising, Sundance festival awarded Gela Babluani's 13 Tzameti $5.99(the director is French of Georgian heritage).
You'll only love this if you liked the Russian roulette scenes from "Deer Hunter", this is just darker. Oh, and a warning for the happy ending lovers: there is hardly one.

If I missed any good films from there, feel free to add them. There's one director there I'm partial towards: Zhang Yimou, with House of Flying Daggers, Riding Alone for Thousand of Miles and Curse of the Golden Flower

Fellini deal is dead, price went up to 12.99.
Not really art, but NetFlix has Team America and Superbad (haven't seen it yet) for $5.99, obviously both used.

The Mission here. for $12.49 Thanks Abulukas.

Gabriel Axel, Babette's Feast, $7.49
Fred Zinnemann, A Man for All Seasons, $7.49
Oliver Stone, JFK - $ 12.49
Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf?

also $12.49
Once Upon a Time in America

A nearly four hour Sergio Leone epic with Robert DeNiro and James Woods and
a fantastic score by Morricone.
I've been thinking of buying this for years but the comments on Amazon
say that the movie has been split in half and put on two discs and that it was split
right in the middle of a scene. Perhaps they will address this and reissue this film.

Any deal for Ingmar Bergman's Trilogy?

alert mods

DeepDiscount.com has a sale right now, I could find Fellini's Orchestra Rehearsal at $10.54 after coupon (I used DVDTALK, but check SD for more)
Edit: just so you know, La Dolce Vita costs $50.47 even on sale, so I created this thread for a reason.

My favorite Roma scene is the concluding one: that large group of motorcycles taking a tour around Rome at night.
