I just registered my Nuvi 350 that I bought some time ago and there weren't any problems - it gave me the free update without any hassles. I'm downloading the 2 gig file now, and I have the code to unlock it. I will burn it to some backup disks later - can't be too careful, and no point in paying $10 for them to mail me the same thing. Not sure why some others seem to be having problems, this was extremely simple and straightforward. Thanks OP! And good luck to everyone else. |

inurface said:Seriously, the 2008 update is only like 6mo old!@# I think it came out around Oct/Nov.But I think it was based on maps from a few months earlier. It sounds like they've figured out how to get the update out quickly this time. |

philosofy said:I downloaded the 2gig image last night and installed on my Nuvi 680 today with no problems. I also made sure to copy all the contents on the Nuvi before doing anything as a backup. If my Nuvi gets for some reason get borked up in the future can I use this downloaded image to reinstall or should I have opted for the dvd to be sent to me instead? There is no need to order the DVD. You can reinstall the maps again from the image -- your unlock code specific to your unit is stored in your MyGarmin account if you should lose it. That being said, if everything works with the new maps, you should back up the contents of your Nuvi again -- I just burn them to a DVD-RW each time I update. The 300/600 series (and probably other Nuvis) just have a bunch of files that are used. The big .img file is the maps and the small .unl file is the unlock code for your unit. The benefit is that you can back up everything on the unit and you don't have to wait for the installation routine to regenerate the .img file (which could take an hour). |

I'm glad my method is working for some people. Weird how it's not working for the 650/660 Nuvis. |

If you are a guy knows about BT (Bit Torrent) It is easy for you to find a torrent link. I am at the office now. Let me see if I can find the link when I go home. Why wasting your time sending emails and begging those fools? iSeeInPics said:Before you do anything DO THIS FIRST! philosofy said:Try going here and enter the serial number to your Garmin GPS. It should tell you if your up to date or not. One question I have is whether this will tip Garmin off to people that haven't registered yet (like me) because we have been waiting for the new maps to come out. After numerous emails to Garmin CS they would not give me a free upgrade. I did this link and BAM ... free! Thanks philosofy!! |

Should have bought it from Costco instead. Return it when they refuse to upgrade map for free even for a few months old unit.

After downloading for about 3hrs when I hit the launch button I am getting a file corrupt error. I asked my wife to download at home and she is getting the same (file corrupt). Am I doing anything wrong? Any help is appreciated. |

wow, garmin sucks. I bought my 660 3 weeks ago, and do not qualify for a free update. I called CSR and was told the same BS. I just sent them a nasty email. This is such poor customer service, especially considering its a download. EDIT: jeez, even their web admin sucks, no confirmation on any of my sent emails to support, and when I check my account, it shows java errors were encountered. Love dealing finding out how much a company sucks after I buy their stuff. |

I tried to register on the Garmin website but it wants me to plug my Nuvi 200 in to continue. I had it locked in the glovebox so I decided to try it today. Hopefully when I try it I'll be able to get a free update. I'm still running 2007 maps and so far I've been pretty happy. Except for ONE thing - one WalMart is listed as being in the middle of a residential area. My old SP C300 took me to the same spot with its even older maps, so I guess they hadn't fixed it yet in 2007. I'm curious if the 2009 version fixes that. |

Since it is May and they are already selling the 2009 upgrade, why not sell the 2010 upgrade too. That'll save me some time! I wonder if in the 2010 upgrade they will have the roads to my development that were built in 2004? |

For those folks who don't want to deal with the hack hassle and live near a Fry's BM they have the 2009 maps (CD) on sale for $49 until Tuesday. That said, I bought my Nuvi 360 2 years ago, registered it for the first time this morning and qualified for the 2009 map update Downloading now..... |

FYI for those of you who have a Garmin Nuvi 200W and are trying to update. When you try to update the maps, the software program will say that you are out of space and an additional 37 MB are needed to do the update. I called Garmin tech support in Kansas and they showed me how to delete the unnecessary voices (like Bulgarian and Russian, etc...). So, you need to clear about 37 MB from your nuvi 200W in order to get the update to work. |

There is website where you can download maps from. Recently I went to Mexico with Nuvi 250W and could see the internal roads there for a general guidance. |

Has anyone been told exactly *why* the 650/660s aren't eligible for this upgrade for free? I'm a bit confused reading through all these threads -- I thought something had been mentioned about Garmin's getting one free map upgrade? |
