Linkazon - it's a sibling of bc-900 without bells and garbage batteries and adapters - get Sanyo batteries - good luck!
it actually has a lower charge rate - good for batteries! and doesn't come with storage bag - I got bc900 for $39.99 ($49.99 here): don't use the bag or their batteries (last a couple days in remotes - ridiculous!)
I don't agree that the BC-900 is necessarily a better choice. From the Thomas Distributing website:
"New Charger from La Crosse Technologies. The BC-700 battery charger has all the same features as the popular La Crosse BC-900, except the BC-700 is capable of charge rates of either 200, 500, or 700 mA. This means that the BC-700 will charge 2500 mAh batteries in about 4 hrs at the 700mA charge rate. Slower charge rates often mean longer battery life. (** The BC 900 has charge rates of either 200, 500, 700, 1000, 1500, or 1800 mA. ) Other than the slower charge rates the BC-700 is identical in performance to the BC-900."
At Amazon, it's currently 34% more expensive, although they constantly play with the pricing. It also comes with eight batteries and some adapter shells, and a carrying case...all of which is useless to some. And it will charge faster than the BC-700, but that's also what drains battery life. I'd imagine many of us would be looking at this as a replacement to the cheap 15-minute chargers that are killing our batteries already.
Plus, the Amazon reviews are fine. So one guy was irked that the BC-700 doesn't come with any "bonus items." Guess what? Then pay for them and get the BC-900 instead.
That said, Thomas Distributing sells the BC-700 for $33.97 and the BC-900 for $38.97, accessories included. Shipping is $7.81 and Illinois deliveries pay $3.16 sales tax.
Make your own decision, but the BC-700 from Amazon for $32.99, free shipping and no sales tax smells like a good deal to me.

Everything you say is true but.... (there's always a but)
You don't HAVE to use the fastest charge (thereby killing your batteries) just because it is an option.
For this consumer it is worth 5 bucks to have the "turbo charger" so that if I need batteries Christmas morning, (or whatever) I can get them faster.
I charge at 700 most of the time. But if you're running late for a party or something, you'll be willing to trade a bit of cell life for the speed. Or I will.
fatluncher said: For this consumer it is worth 5 bucks to have the "turbo charger" so that if I need batteries Christmas morning, (or whatever) I can get them faster. I'd imagine most people with a significant investment in rechargables leave a set in the charger, which this is perfect for (trickle charge). Plus, at least in this part of the country, Christmas typically comes with some advance warning.
Nice choice vs the 900 for sure. Of course, I think it would be better at $25! Think gold box...think $20...too much to hope for? *shrug*
The one thing that bothered me about the 900 were the reports of the thing going haywire and literally melting down. As a result, I place it on my bathroom counter to do its job. I wonder if the 700 is really the *same* in even that way.
Oh...I also prefer the black color. Maybe that's worth a few bucks.

I have a Canon Brand Charger I currently use and the neat thing about it is the 2 middle ones, has a another set of prongs which allows AAA sized to be charged.
EDIT:
Nevermind I see it now, Works with AAAs too! Awesome!

bc900 and eneloop batteries - aa & aaa - are the best combo for your rechargeable batteries needs bc700 is a sibling of bc900
rbraden said: So why should I buy this rather than just using the charger that came with the Eneloop Costco kit?
Power up, nurture and revitalize rechargeable AA and AAA batteries with this sophisticated but easy-to-use battery recharging system from La Crosse Technology. The unit charges all NiCad and NiMH "AA" and "AAA" rechargeable batteries simultaneously, if necessary, and features four different modes to help your batteries along. A charge mode powers up batteries the standard way, a discharge mode discharges batteries and then recharges them for optimal efficiency, a recharge mode discharges and recharges up to 20 times to bring old batteries back to life, and a test mode displays battery capacity. Seven easy-to-use function keys and automatically switches to trickle charge when charging is complete to ensure maximum battery capacity. Four separate LCD displays show progress and capacity. And, a handy overheat detection feature prevents over-charging for longer battery life.
If the charger from Costco can do this - ? - than no reason

Yeah I'll usually us my BC-900 in 500ma mode and if it's not an urgent need I'll just let it default to 200ma charging overnight. My "bonus" items are in some junk drawer now anyways, and those batteries that they included with the charger were absolute junk! This is a good deal. I'd be jumping all over it if I didn't already have a charger. Thanks OP!
La Crosse is way overrated. I bought mines and didn't last a year. Well the power supply at least and the support is useless. Buy quality rechargables like the low discharge and you won't need to condition double or triple A which is all it's good for.

what rechargeable batteries are you talking about?

I can confirm from personal experience that you can charge both AAA and AA at the same time.
MISURICK said: ...don't use the bag or their batteries (last a couple days in remotes - ridiculous!)Depending on the current draw of the remote, this could be an inappropriate application for rechargeable batteries. i.e. the battery 'self-discharges' before its rated capacity can be utilized by the device.
How long does an alkaline battery last in the same remote?

itsausername said: ...The one thing that bothered me about the 900 were the reports of the thing going haywire and literally melting down...IIRC, that problem was corrected with a firmware revision a couple of years ago. [Check the FW Archives for the version number; if I had to guess, I'd say v33.]
kimgkimg said: ...I'll usually us my BC-900 in 500ma mode and if it's not an urgent need I'll just let it default to 200ma charging overnight...Charging rate should be selected based on the capacity of the cell, (IIRC, between 25 and 50%) to properly trigger the "Delta" detection to switch the charger from CHARGE to TRICKLE mode.
If the current is too low, the charger may pass right through that point (the trigger was too small to be detected) and the cell may be overcharged.
I own the BC-900 and my father-in-law has the BC-700. Truthfully, I wish I had saved my cash and just bought the BC-700. I have a cheap quick charger if I just need to quickly charge a battery before heading out the door. Otherwise my BC-900 (which I use 99% of the time) I run at 500mah at all times. It works great. One of my Energizer 2500mah batteries only tested at 1095mah and after doing a refresh I was able to get 2340mah out of it (obviously your milage may vary). It also has fixed my problem in that I use Rayovac Hybrids for my Wii remotes and after some time of getting the pairs mixed up I wasn't able to get them fully changed (cheap chargers only change until 1 of the batteries is fully changed). This was causing a problem in that every time I put a "recharged" set into my remote, it would only show 2-3 bars. Now I have solid 4 bars every time since all batteries are being fully charged!
The La Cross BC-Family is the only way to go.
Oh as one other posted started, my bag, batteries, and battery sleeves are also just sitting in a drawer. I have never used them. I use low-discharge 90% of the time (other than my A570IS which is a battery hog and needs all the power I can give it).
Got it last week and have been using it since. This thing is great! So far it brought 2 NiHms back to life - a Duracell 1600 and Panasonic 1900, both are now above their ratings, before they were so far gone they lasted about a week where before they were good for a month of service.
I used the 'refresh' mode, but from now on will just use the recharge mode. I left it at the 200 mA recharge setting. I have plenty of batts sitting around, so no need to use any charge setting above 200mA, so no need to have bouoght the 900 instead of the 700.
Very pleased with performance. If you use rechargeable batteries, put this on you 'must get' list.

I got this on 6/18, while they were in Lightning deal for $25.99 as posted, but before discount 32.99 When I saw they went to 29.99 a few hours ago, I decided to request a credit of $3 from Amazon, even though it was a month ago - but less than a month since delivery. Basically it you can return it, you can request a credit. Guess what, an hour ago they already approved the credit making it $22.99. I've said it, and say it again, Amazon customer service RULES. OM

Here's the response I got: I'm sorry, but I can't honor the lower price for "La Crosse Technology BC700 Alpha Power Battery Charger" because when you purchased the item, you received $7.00 as part of the gold box promotion. As a result, your order isn't eligible for our Post-Order Price Guarantee. Oh well. Didn't hurt to try.

Unless the largest cell you plan to recharge is 1400mAh, SKIP THE BC-700!
