Rebates all here. Note that 08-05679 is a SER, not a parago/norton rebate. I'm pretty sure you can do this all online, with free shipping too. Unfortunately that precludes use of the 15/100 coupon, but if the nearest Staples is 100 miles away, it's a lot easier to let UPS do the work

I dont see a rebate for this router. Its an instant $20 rebate.

QUESTION:

What features in DD-WRT do most home users need/use?

Does this router support WDS? Does DD-WRT micro support WDS?

Would this router without DD-WRT be a good router for regular usage?

"Proof of purchase is located on the top inside flap of box. Photocopies will not be accepted."
OK to file multiple norton coupons with photocopies?

NoMoneyInMyWallet said:my4mainecoons said:Actually, you can get it for a little better than that if you can find some filler.
Router 49.94 + Norton Antivirus 39.98 + $10 filler - coupon for $15 off $100 - $60 rebates - $20 instant savings on router = $5
The $20 IS for the router would come off before the $15 coupon, so you'd actually need $30 filler.

You could buy the Staples MAILMATE™ Junk Mail Shredder and get it for free after $40 SER and $20 Norton/Shredder rebate, but ... you need a 3rd NAV POP.

If you can "pull it off", you'd get:

WRT54GS + NAV + MailMate = $29.98 + $39.98 + $59.98 = $129.94
- $15 off $100
OTD price = $114.94 + tax

- NAV rebates: $20 SER + $20 Upgrade + $20 Router + $20 Shredder = $80
- MailMate rebate: $40 SER

Total = make $5.00

does WDS support WPA-AES (the lowest form of safe encryption) now?

for a while it only supported WEP which would be pretty weak sauce. Even WPA-TKIP isn't very good.

Let me know as I'd like to try wds again but quite honestly the WEP thing turned me off since it takes like 40 minutes (on my nokia n770) to nail the wep-128 key every time.

great router!

for anyone who has done peachtree rebates over the years, doing 1 rebate/household/yr is safe right?

What do you mean WPA-TKIP isnt very good? lol

If you use a good, long password, its practically impossible to crack.

yeah, there's nothing wrong with TKIP, they've sealed up most of the holes in their RC4 implementation. and RC4 is still basically the fastest cipher in existence.

GiveMeFreeStuff said:This has only 2MB flash. SO only micro version of DD-WRT.

If you want to put DD-WRT, Fry's has Airlink 430 for 17.99 through 5/6

Is this B&M only?

I have had good luck with airlink & ddwrt (except the one that just died on me, but that lasted 2 yrs). I will go pick one up today @ frys.

I got one of these a couple of months ago and the micro version of DD-WRT went on just fine. What I use it for is to pickup my wireless signal as a client, and use the wired router part to feed my computers. You can also do this to "borrow" your neighbors unprotected wireless internet and share it with multiple computers via network cables.

great router and great deal with NAV!

alert mods

Thumbs up.

Don't forget you can use routers as access points, so a $30 access point/extender is niiiiiice.

Attention!
Shredder and router NAV rebates has same offer number, so they would not work together, unless you mail it to 2 different addresses. Plus you need 2 POPs.

Just a heads up

just came back, found a airlink 10/100 switch for 17.99, where is the wireless??

I knew that you needed an extra POP, but I didn't notice that they were the same offer number.

Thanks for pointing that out.

None of them worked well, always problems with setup and wireless losing connection.

This wireless router worked the first time and has "never" lost connection.
Easy to setup and easy to configure. Love this router.
SOLID wireless finally!

does it amaze anyone else that it's been so damn difficult for engineers to get proper Wifi right? i don't get it, of course i'm not an engineer, but it's odd to me that it's been so hard to get proper, reliable-all-the-time wifi

But I do have proper reliable wi-fi. If one invests in any off the shelf router, yes, he/she is going have issues. I have never seen anyone having issues wiht Buffalo routers. Heck even the stock Buffalo firmware is rock solid so I hear. I am not sure how ttalkman had issues. I ran my Belkin like a champ for a couple of years without trouble when I first started out. No issues then either till I found a WRT54GS which I promptly flashed to DD-WRT and have never looked back. The first Belkin, now flashed as DD-WRT is running like a champ as a repeater.

My spare set is a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 and a WHR-G54S both sealed in their boxes.
