I bought a V2 WRT54GS for $20 for my gf, I put dd-wrt on it and it has been solid for her. I personally picked up a Buffalo G125 with DD-WRT, for $25 and the buffalo is the best I've ever had. I've not had to reset it for months and months at a time.
Anyone knows, where to get a Buffalo? |

how stable is the airlink 430 for you? I'm just wondering, anyone else have used one? My sister picked up one of those from fry's and I haven't dd-wrt on it yet, but she said the stock firmware is unstable with wireless...
IMHO, the linksys is a solid router, but it's not as good as a Buffalo. In a all fairness, buffalo's are are hard to come by now a days, and at $30 new from a store, wrt54gs is a steal. I've not had to reset it for months and months at a time. I have three AR430W flashed with DD-WRT RC 7 and these router are very stable. You will not believe all the features you gain after flashing to DD-WRT. I have no problem with the Wireless at all. I had problems with the original stock firmware of the AR430W as the router would lock up every now and then and it needed to be power cycled. Ever since I converted to DD-WRT no more such problems. Two other flashed AR430W are in use at friends locations and they are very heavy internet users and also have reported zero problems. for anybody who wants to update to DD-WRT on a AR430W please read the flashing instruction in this thread. http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=23510&highlight=ar430w one tip make sure you are using the TFTP server that is located in the RC 7 download page. Flashing the router is not the most easiest task but doable. good luck. |

Just returned from Staples. All of the units in my area are Verson 7.2 (CGNE) which do not have removable antennas. The store mgr. was nice enough to open the box to check; since it did not have the removable antennas they issued me a refund. That Was Easy ) If you find Version 7.0 with CGNB, CGNC, or CGNA on the box, they Do have removable antennas. Buffalo Routers (WHR-HP-G54HP) are available on eBay. A little pricey but impressive Transmit Power. With DD-WRT Firmware installed the unit can be pushed to 722mW. Ebayer mhzkid has a good description as to the power settings on the amplifier and why this unit can produce such a high Transmit Power. |

What features in DD-WRT do most home users need/use? I would say, most important feature for me - ability to increase/decrease transmission power. Nothing works better in terms of security than no wireless signal outside of my house |

meeper said:I believe this is the model router I once had but gave away, as it seemed my microwave would interfere with it, whereas my old router which was only 802.11b had no such problem.
Anybody know if microwave interference is a general problem with 802.11g, or are there certain wireless models to look for, or maybe certain microwaves ovens to avoid? I think it's a problem with all microwave ovens and 2.4Ghz devices, more or less. |

Any good deals on usb wireless g NIC's, compatible with the WRT54GS? Seems like they are going for more than the router! |

If you want to put DD-WRT, Fry's has Airlink 430 for 17.99 through 5/6 Where do you see that? Fry's webpage has it listed for $40+ |

lazybummm, My 430 has been up for 4 months without any problem. The original firmware(1.0.1?) was not stable at all. You can flash it to the latest, I think it was 1.1.0, it was better but I ended it up flashed with DD-WRT v6 at the time. I may just buy another one and flash it with dd-wrt v7. |

Has anyone noticed that the sticker on the box specifically states that offer 07-75149 and 07-75077 can not be combined? Attention customers: These offers can not be combined. You may be eligible for one or the other, but NOT both. |

I would say, most important feature for me - ability to increase/decrease transmission power. Nothing works better in terms of security than no wireless signal outside of my house Weak coverage doesn't mean it can't be hacked from outside. |

Something to make this deal even sweeter. There are some $10 off $20 coupons over at SD in the Staples thread from Office Max. My Staples typically will accept competitors coupons. Worth a shot |

Why even mention tomato? People dont think you are going to get one with the capability of using tomato on it. Tomato isn't an option unless you have ver 4 or lower and that was about 5 revs ago. |

Staples on Rosecrans in LA had one left and it is the v7 (CGNC) Also, Frys on Rosecrans and Sepulveda has bunch of the Airlink 430w routers but they are not where the 17.99 price tag is, but on top of the shelves in the middle of the row N |

sherry7 said:Darn, I just bought a new router last week (this same one, but the Linux version), and paid $20 more, even after rebate. Darn, darn, and triple darn. Oh well, I don't think I could have stood not having my wireless for another day anyway. So have a spare. Mine never wearout, they hit the floor when some ninny here snags the cable with their foot and sends it flying to it's demise.
