how stable is the airlink 430 for you? I'm just wondering, anyone else have used one? My sister picked up one of those from fry's and I haven't dd-wrt on it yet, but she said the stock firmware is unstable with wireless...
IMHO, the linksys is a solid router, but it's not as good as a Buffalo. In a all fairness, buffalo's are are hard to come by now a days, and at $30 new from a store, wrt54gs is a steal. I bought a V2 WRT54GS for $20 for my gf, I put dd-wrt on it and it has been solid for her. I personally picked up a Buffalo G125 with DD-WRT, for $25 and the buffalo is the best I've ever had. I've not had to reset it for months and months at a time.
I have three AR430W flashed with DD-WRT RC 7 and these router are very stable. You will not believe all the features you gain after flashing to DD-WRT. I have no problem with the Wireless at all. I had problems with the original stock firmware of the AR430W as the router would lock up every now and then and it needed to be power cycled. Ever since I converted to DD-WRT no more such problems. Two other flashed AR430W are in use at friends locations and they are very heavy internet users and also have reported zero problems.
for anybody who wants to update to DD-WRT on a AR430W please read the flashing instruction in this thread. http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=23510&highlight=ar430w one tip make sure you are using the TFTP server that is located in the RC 7 download page. Flashing the router is not the most easiest task but doable. good luck. thanks for the post, I've flashed a few with TFTP, hopefully it's not more complex than the others. I mean honestly, when it's written step-by-step, how hard can it be? lol |

I just bought WRT54GS + NAV + MailMate from local Staples, and I'm filling rebates now, found the 3 rebates(07-75077,07-75149shredder, 07-75149router) need 3 proof of purchase from NAV (but one box one POP), so how to deal with this problem? NoMoneyInMyWallet said:my4mainecoons said:Actually, you can get it for a little better than that if you can find some filler. Router 49.94 + Norton Antivirus 39.98 + $10 filler - coupon for $15 off $100 - $60 rebates - $20 instant savings on router = $5 The $20 IS for the router would come off before the $15 coupon, so you'd actually need $30 filler.
You could buy the Staples MAILMATE™ Junk Mail Shredder and get it for free after $40 SER and $20 Norton/Shredder rebate, but ... you need a 3rd NAV POP. See NOTE below!
If you can "pull it off", you'd get:
WRT54GS + NAV + MailMate = $29.98 + $39.98 + $59.98 = $129.94 - $15 off $100 OTD price = $114.94 + tax
- NAV rebates: $20 SER + $20 Upgrade + $20 Router + $20 Shredder = $80 - MailMate rebate: $40 SER
Total = make $5.00
========================================================
NOTE: baddentist pointed out that the router and shredder rebates have the same offer number.
baddentist said:Attention! Shredder and router NAV rebates has same offer number, so they would not work together, unless you mail it to 2 different addresses. Plus you need 2 POPs.

I just bought the wrt54gs router. My question pertains whether I should purchase the wpc54gs adapter for my Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop which is ~4-5 years old and has an Intel Pro wireless 2200BG built in. Would the wpc54gs increase my performance or should I just keep with the stock Intel adapter? The 2200BG is no longer made by Intel so it is a bit old. Thanks! Here is the response I got from Linksys: Parag Mehta (32268):Hi, my name is Parag Mehta (32268). How may I help you? You: I just bought wrt54gs. Parag Mehta (32268): wpc54gs would improve the wireless performance on the laptop You: OK but how can you prove that? Parag Mehta (32268): WPC54gs and the Router wrt54gs are related products and both work on the same speed booster technology. You: OK - but how do I know if it is superior to the internal Intel 2200BG? Parag Mehta (32268): I do not know that for sure |

I'm honestly not sure if you should expect much more than that kind of response. I usually don't ask free tech support for purchasing decisions. |

I picked on up from a Staples in NJ - plenty left on the shelves. It was v7 with removable antennas, manufactured almost a year ago. There is obviously a glut of these things. I'm looking forward to WPA and easy port forwarding. |

I'm running into the same problem, except I just need do two rebates (norton+shredder, and norton+router). I notice besides the PoP on the inside flap of the box, there is a PoP symbol on the installation pamphlet. Can I use that one also? Thanks! evenline15 said:I just bought WRT54GS + NAV + MailMate from local Staples, and I'm filling rebates now, found the 3 rebates(07-75077,07-75149shredder, 07-75149router) need 3 proof of purchase from NAV (but one box one POP), so how to deal with this problem?

The HP $20 coupon still working. I placed an order online & paid in-store plus used my $15 coupon. They all worked fine. The HP coupon shows as $20 instant savings, expires 5/7/08, then my $15 off $100. I bought the Norton, Mailmate, & Router. Thanks OP. |
