the company is reputable company is EU and also offers a 2 years warranty and the traffic subscription is free, the 2GB memory is internal memory and it supports SD card, this is very tempting but I just can not justify buying this without atleast a few reviews... anyone used this??
I think this is the Vendor home page for the product.
Be sure to check out the simulator link on the bottom left side of the screen.
Aldi is selling an "American" version of the E series

Yes, the difference is the one in Aldi has the newer GoPal 4 s/w against 3.5 in this and the processor is samsung 400MHZ. Its the same as european E3212 and is supposed to be the cheapest GPS with all those features included, selling at around 120 pounds in UK ! I am tempted but still no reviews, it was only launched in March 08 even in the EU and it supposed to have the new 2007 Q2 Navteq maps !
Nice unit - replacing the wife's garmin. Maps are 06Q4. Not as user friendly as the garmin, but seems to recalculate quicker and more items to customize. All and all a nice unit for under $200.
Looks like there is no bluetooth, right?
Can you play MP3s while navigating? I thought that would be a nice feature...!
No bluetooth, true but looks like a very nice unit. I just bought this for Mother's Day for my wife who is always lost (but yes, she is on to me -- it was for me
). You can play MP-3's through the SSD slot and it has a mount that suctions on to your windshield--however glass seems to be the only surface to which it sticks. Also has a picture viewer program -- a nice feature on the road with your digital camera. The unit is very responsive and quick and has all the maps preloaded. I have not been able to test the traffic monitoring radio (as I don't live in a huge metro area) but it looks very cool.
How's the mp3 playing interface? I may get this unit and use it daily as the mp3 player in my car, using nav only occassionally. Any thoughts on how easy it is to find tracks, play albums, etc.... Does it have a headphone out so I can get it to play through my car stereo?
Thanks, just saw this at Aldi and don't want to pull the trigger until I can get a review of mp3 playing with it.
I just told the wife about it as Im out of town . She went and scooped 2 up. One for her and one for her dad. She is going out of town today and hopefully it works fine for this price.
What kind of battery life are you seeing? My wife picked one up last week and it seems like a nice unit. The only issue I have is that the battery life is about 45 minutes. I would think this would be longer but I don't have a lot of experience with GPS's. POI has found most everything I throw at it. I don't agree with the route it chooses all the time but it does get me there.
The traffic feature is why my wife bought it but I am not really sure how it works. Louisville KY is supposed to be supported and the light bulb flashes yellow but I don't see any alerts as of yet. Might just be a good traffic week. Anyone know how this works?
Yah, sometimes the suction cups don't work so well on surfaces other than glass. But here's a tip: Garmin includes a round shiny plastic disc with their GPS units. It has two sided sticky foam on the back and will work nearly anywhere in the car interior. They can be purchased for cheep on eBay and othe places; or if you are handy you could fabricate one yourself out of Lexan. Good luck!
is this gps still available, or is it a one week thing..?
The best part is that everything at Aldi is a 25-cent instant rebate if you use a shopping cart ![]()
I picked one of these GPS's up to try it out against a Magellan 3100, never had a Garmin, TomTom, Mio and any others. I was very impressed when I heard that Aldi's was going to carry a GPS. Especially the MEDION name. I have a 4yr old Medion Laptop that was loaded when I got it, I know a few with Medion desktop systems. Medion is a very European name brand in Europe. I know many that shy away from Aldi's and off brand electronics. But most of the time their products are loaded and fraction of the price of those that are sold in the big box stores. Here are a few items that I have noticed
Medion vs Magellan
- cannot enter ZIP codes into the Medion, this is possible in Magellan
- Magellan seems to be a little more user friendly until you figure the Medion out
- Magellan says "recalculating route" that can get annoying, Medion adjusts on the fly and gets you back on track.
- Medion text speech is great but not always 100%, it does not say the full name a times
- Medion will announce "Observe the speed limit" thats cool if you have a lead foot
- Disappointed where I live I cannot use the Traffic Monitoring...that was one reason why I wanted this unit for the lifetime Traffic watcher. Others are a subscription.
- If it is sunny out Medion even at full brightness can be hard to see
- Medion stores addresses/contacts under favorites or last used
- Medion does not allow phone numbers to be added to a favorite
- Medion battery life is 45 to 90min (depends on many factors) Magellan seems to have a much longer battery life.
- Window suction cup holder seems better with Medion, better adjusting features
- Medion comes with a stylus
- Can charge the Medion with USB, Magellan came with a car charger and the USB for data ONLY
- Magellan turn timing seems to be more accurate, Medion announces before the actual turn is there.
- Medion POI is much better than my Magellan
- Medion MP3 player can be hooked up with FM Modulator much like a DVD player.
- Medion is more compact than my Magellan
- Medion has a bunch of settings like the Magellan
- Medion comes with 2yr warranty
- Medion & Magellan uses NAVTEQ maps the same as Google Maps, NAVTEQ is more accurate and complete in North America, so it's preferable to buy a GPS that uses NAVTEQ rather than TeleAtlas
- Wish it had red light and speed camera monitors....those are a huge pain here.
- Medion has a directions button which tells you the route by roads but no maneuver turns listed, Magellan shows both
- Magellan has EXIT POI's which is really cool...you can view upcoming exit POI's by catagory.
- Medion displays on main screen estimated arrival time, Magellan does not.
I would like to try the Medion vs a higher grade Magellan unit. But until then I am still experimenting with the Medion. As I learn more I will update this post.
If this was helpful please let me know.
If anyone has this Medion GPS try this....make sure you already have a state and city selected. Then go back and clear the route out. Now select the SAME state then you should be able to touch the previous city tab without typing the city then you would advance to the street entry. If I hit the city tab it goes to the street and I CANNOT type. If I go back the first letter of the city THEN touch the city tab. I can type the street letters. I think this is a defect. Does this happen to you as well?

Oh yes !!!
I know exactly what you are talking about !! It was very very very annoying when it first happened to me, I thought I broke my GPS in the first 20 minutes ! But when I went back out and selected everything it did allow the typing !! Yes, it for sure is a defect and I hope they correct it in the next firmware !
OP, is there a reason you didn't bother to put the price in either the title to this thread or the text of your post?
Has anyone figured out how to add custom POI's to the Medion GPS? I have been doing a lot of research on this but not sure what format they use for the POI's. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
