(Adapted from the 449 notebook thread in this same forum.)

HP Computer link

Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium
Hard Drive Size: 250GB
Processor Brand: AMD
Installed Memory: 1024MB (upgrades to 2GB only)
Processor Series: Athlon 64 x2
No Monitor

Not a powerhouse, but the price is right. Available for pickup only, NOT DELIVERY.

$100 off coupon

One poster in the previous OM thread already got this deal, along with another $20 off due to the computer's being on clearance.

You will have to check to see if the computer is available at your local OM. Given that Vista Home Premium costs $229 just for the software on Amazon suggests that this is a pretty hot deal on an outdated computer.

YMMV is to indicate possible variable success rates with the printed coupon, but should be valid.

the picture shows it with a remote control.. i wonder if it has an HD tuner/remote

Excellent question. I didn't see it in the specs, but here's a more complete listing from HP of its hardware, etc.

Is this really all that outdated? It seems better than the new PC I bought a year and a half ago. I think it's a good deal any way you look at it -- outdated or not.

Could definitely make for a nice HTPC with Vista Premium installed.

I didn't think it was too bad either. Just wanted to head off the inevitable "this computer is teh suck lolrrzzz, no HDMIz" poster who was waiting to pounce on the latest tech thread.

Come on haters, it's been almost an hour and I'm still waiting!

Well I gave you green, just because you poked fun at people who can't fix "teh"

Excellent price but few OMs will have any left.

I went to my local OM during lunch and they did not have any in stock. they also checked all the OM in the DFW area and none of the store has it in stock.

yep I remember buying a bunch of these at $350 - coupon at omax back in november, and they were scarce even then

XP drivers for this model?

No go in Lansing, MI. They said they haven't had that model for quite a long time.

I have this computer and it makes a GREAT HTPC. It is extremely quiet. However it really needs to be upgraded to 2 GB even for HTPC use. Given the declining cost of memory, that will add little to the cost. I also added a cheap 2 GB readyboost USB stick which also seems to help.

I went to buy this computer last night on the way home. It is not available in store but can be ordered by the store for you shipped free. But, then, you can't use the coupon. So I didn't buy.

thanks for the ehads up. will check the local OM

Just check with the store.

It is available in Miami, Pittsburgh area. Good luck for anyone in that area

SOOOO... I log on to OfficeMax to check and see if they have this deal. I happen to be looking for a budget HTPC and Office Max usually does not pique my interest. I type in my zip code and BAMMO it says the closest store period is 93 miles away. I drive by one 4 times a week right here in my own town. Do they have private franchise stores? Anyone ever experience this? I live in Tulsa, OK.

can anyone tell me if this is a hot deal at $499.99? I picked up one last weekend but don't know much about them. it's fom office max and i applied the $100 coupon.
