I imagine, some of the seeming variations in results is faulty (re)assemblage, despite the fact that it is incredibly simple to do so.
Consider your case lucky. The variation issue is more like "individual parts manufactured way off the specs and nobody in their QC catches them, or cares about." Of all the MX-1 enclosures that I examined, none of them has any assembly issue such as fan blades touching the case/wires or misaligned ports missing the contacts, whatsoever. However, it's the individual parts that are not made to the same specs. In the loose DC plug case (mentioned above in my last post), I noticed they use a different DC socket - all the holes are way wider than the others (so it's actually a miracle that the plug pins would lodge in). As an analogy it's like putting a 2W resistor down on a 1/4W design, sorry I don't have exact model #'s for those DC sockets. But you should get the drift....
Not to be argumentative, but quite the contrary. Anyone that does happen to receive and assemble this case and experiences noise has to either examine their techniques, or consider their's among the small percentages of any manufacturing process(even high quality) that inevitably proves defective.
This is a highly reviewed, highly regarded, enclosure that is probably considered the best in class. If your's happens to be noisy, consider yourself one of the very few unlucky.
There's a reason this seems to sell out every time it's on sale, somewhere lately.
