a noteable feature that accompanies every Tumi product:
Every Tumi bag has a Tumi Tracer barcode number engraved on a small metal plate that is riveted to the bag. If you register your Tumi Tracer, an airline or individual finding a bag can contact Tumi's registry service, and Tumi will arrange for you to be reunited with your bag. Register your Tracer Number here at Tumi linky
Otherwise, if your address tag and airline tag are torn off your bag (and there is no identification left inside), your luggage and its contents will end up being auctioned off. See NYTimes linkydoody
Lots of people swear by Tumi. Glad to see it's at Costco. Unfortunately, it's still very pricey.
Green to OP for the heads-up, though.

Green to OP for the heads-up, though. If you are traveling by car, it is probably overkill. After having the airlines ruin 2 new bags on two consecutive trips - the only luggage I take by air these days is that specifically designed to stand up to the abuse.
For anyone considering luggage, be aware that each company has several lines - go for the "crew" or "frequent flyer" version. That is what makes this dang near $300 suitcase a very good deal. If I did not already have my TravelPro Crew I'd be grabbing me one of these.
if you travel alot, this is a good deal... traveling 40 weeks a year, my tumis have lasted 10+ years against the airlines abuse, making it an excellent investment.
Thanks OP!
As others have mentioned, this deal will be appreciated by the frequent fliers. If you have ever had a wheel melt (pre-roller blade wheeled suitcases) or some other luggage failure, you start to appreciate "getting what you pay for" in luggage.
If Costco is selling Tumi, then you know the brand is no longer desirable. Same thing happened when Victorinox started selling their stuff at Sam's. The brand lost all value to savvy consumers (although the rubes continue to be impressed, I'm sure: "Look maw, they got them fancy red cross bags stacked up next to them corn chips!").

???
Costco also sells Bvlgari, Cartier, Tag Heuer, waterford crystal, Dom Perignon, etc.
I don't see your logic ![]()

Look maw, this guy has obviously never stepped foot inside a Costco!

Green for the quote.
Red for the logic.

If you want the same bags you see airline pilots using, check out www.luggageworksonline.com. They are expensive and heavy, but they stand up to the abuse we put them through.
My local store also has a Tumi messenger bag (generations line). I think it was $129.
Anyone have Costco item number? thanks
Costco item number 296448 (Tumi 22022) @ $289.99.
Good Luck!
Thanks! I picked up 2 today.
Tumi makes great products. I have a couple of Tumi pieces and it's lasted for about 7 years plus, used monthly.
Briggs and Riley and Hartford also make great luggage. I like the Briggs because it allows for more internal space since the frame is external.
None the less, Tumi is a great brand. Pricey... yes, but well worth it.
Great price OP!
Well, I personally swear by Tumi. I've got probably a half million miles flown with my 22" expandable WAW (I have the generation before the FXT). I bought another one "just in case" when they came out with the FXT (for $212 shipped - so no tax - at a Tumi outlet store FWIW), but haven't opened the box yet. I've got to get around to sending my current one in as they'll fix it up (for $25 processing fee) with the lifetime warranty...
I also bought a 26" Victorinox (can't remember the name, but it was their top of the line at the time - NXT maybe?), and while their warranty support was really pretty good, it's sad that I know that. It's just an inferior product that looked and felt REALLY nice, but hasn't stood up to the abuse (known as Air France to me...) and isn't as well thought out and designed.
Even if I don't continue to travel around 50,000+ miles a year, it's been well worth the investment.
a bit offtopic, but one sure way to make sure your bag withstands airline abuse is not to subject it to one at all.
OneBag.com contains a lot of excelelnt advice on how not to overpack and i found the bag that i like following their advice (Rick Steves convertible carryon) that I will use in 3 weeks for my 10 day trip to spain.
Can you guys post where you have found these. I checked King of Prussia today, and they didn't have any Tumi bags.
