Looks good for someone wanting the XPS. I think the RED is mainly from eBayers.

Not entirely, the 420s are being clearenced at BB B&M so you can possibly get it cheaper at your local BB, I just got the display at my local BB for $800 incl tax and I was able to get a 22" Dell LCD for $160, so about $960 for the combo including tax.

I think OP is getting red mainly because he just copied and posted a deal from a Dell email.

I thought it was the ebayers?

You'll come up with any reason for the red, so long as it isn't that the deal sucks, eh?

Then you paid too much. You need to visit the Dell outlet more often. The XPS 420 config similar to the OP's without a monitor and nearly identical to the one you got at BB sells at the Dell Outlet in Certified Refurbished aka brand new for well under $600 shipped with the nearly weekly Dell outlet coupons Dell is sending out. I have seen a few scratch and dent for under $500. IMO those Dell Outlet deals are better than getting a display model from Best Buy.

I agree with you partially. I was looking at the Dell outlet and found the prices pretty decent but I wasn't seeing them offered with Adobe Elements Studio, which was a must for me, besides, I was picking up the monitor and I wanted to have something to play with over the weekend.

FYI, we have ordered several 420s from the Dell outlet over the past few months. All included Adobe Elements Studio preinstalled and the seperate Adobe Adobe Elements Studio reistall media, product documentation and registration key package just like the new ones. I know Dell was automatically bundling Adobe Elements Studio 3 on all XPS 420 configurations. Has that practice recently changed?

Where did you find the 22 inch Dell for $160?

I'm pretty sure that they still include the Elements package but I do remember browsing the Dell Outlet a few months ago and all the systems were showing Adobe Elements Studio under installed software. More recently I'm not seeing this. I didn't want to get it and then possibly have to fight with Dell for it.

This seems a better deal to me and a lot more is included! No monitor but you can buy one with the price difference.

alert mods

That is a great deal, for me it was between a Dell XPS 420 and an HP Elite. I went with the Dell because I've been buying Del for years with no major issues. Monitor deals come up all the time, so an HP elite and a 20" heck even a 22" should be under $900.

rbraden said:#1, there isn't a dime of profit in buying this and ebaying it, so anyone thinking that people are trying to hide the deal to maximize their resale profits is laughable.

I was not implying that this deal was a money maker. When I made that comment I was thinking more about those people who have stockpiles of Dell 420 and Inspirons already listed on eBay and don't want people (newbies etc. who have their default settings to not show all deals) to not know that they could get a comparable deal directly from Dell.

So you honestly think that this deal is rated red because of that? How do you explain the plethora of Dell deals on fatwallet that get tons of green? Are there no eBayers with stockpiles of those machines?

Probably Staples (after PM to BBY and $40 coupon). BBY had it for $200.

or probably OP works for Dell, who pay him to distribute ads

Not hot, but not a bad deal...
If you're looking for PC with a cable card tuner, you're looking at the xps420 or HP.
Yes, there are better deals without the cable card, Dell outlet, inspirion, etc.
(But the outlet 420's have a risk the motherboard may not be enabled.)
So I've been watching all 420 deals for a few months, the best offer I saw (which I bought) was during last day of the 10 day sale. Ended up around $1040 with the cable tuner (+200) and no monitor option. (Then minus 10% DPA and 3% fatwallet.) So I think, if you need the 22in monitor, this is almost as good.

BTW, hook this up to HD cable + internet, it is pretty nice out of the box with vista media center.
