I was in my local HD both 5-10-08 and today, 5-11-08.

Tonight they set out a new additional to the ceiling fan clearance pile.

A 60 inch Hunter ceiling fan. 5 blade. Auto-balancing (however a fan does that?)
Dark color (2 dark colors to chose from via reversible fan blades).

Only 2 problems with this unit:

1. Uses the small B-10 base light bulbs.

2. No mention of a remote control inside.
(the actual manufacturer's cost of a remote control unit can't be more than a couple bucks. To
try and sell any fan that's originally priced at over $100 WITHOUT including a remote control
is just plain a$$inine, on the manufacturer's part)

The last time I bought a ceiling fan (about two months ago) at Lowe's, the display had the standard medium base bulbs, but the fan in the box had the sockets for the small (candelabra base) bulbs. The "specialist" in the lighting department told me that all the fan manufacturers are going to this base. There are a couple brands of CFL bulbs out there now that come with the small base and a medium base adapter, so not really too big a deal, if the rest of the CFL bulb manufacturers will jump on board.

I have not been impressed with the cfl lamps with the candelabra base. They do not put out as much light as incandesent and start extremely slow. The ones I've tried came from lowes were supposedly 40 w equivalent, but were terrible. Just my 2 cents worth.

Based on the appearance of that light fixture, I think it would be better to install these in pairs.

We have three different brands of ceiling fans in our house: 2xHunters, 2xHampton Bay & 1 I cannot recall. There's no doubt that the quality of the Hunter fans is much higher than the other brands we have.

Casablanca fans are top of the line and are usually sold only at fan and lamp shops. Hunter is a middle- to higher-grade brand of fan that you can buy just about anywhere. Hampton Bay and Harbor Breeze are the house brand fans at Home Depot and Lowes, respectively, and their quality is likely to be acceptable but probably not quite as good as Hunter and nowhere near as good as Casablanca in terms of overall craftsmanship and design and performance.

As long as it's in a house with a secure foundation.

A pair of these inside a single-wide mobile home and it could become airborne.

And be careful with the reverse motor setting, (winter setting)
where air is pulled upward rather than pushed downward.
Especially if you have small pets and/or young children.

Or you might find them swirling around the living room, trapped in a upward spiralling vortex.
